It’s probably worth noting that Braun hasn’t played middle infield since college, and he hasn’t seen a major league infield (or a minor league one, for that matter) since his rookie season in 2007, the first and last time he played a full year at third base. He didn’t exactly take to it, finishing the year with the third-worst defensive rating in the league and 26 errors in 112 games — more than any third baseman had accumulated in a single season since Casey Blake’s 26-error run with the Indians in 2004.

While it’s not yet clear how serious the Brewers are about stashing Braun at second base, Stearns said Friday that he doesn’t envision Braun’s move to the infield as a permanent or full-time change. The most likely scenario still seems to be one in which Domingo Santana is traded, freeing up space for Braun to retain his position in the outfield, but the club doesn’t appear to be entertaining any serious offers just yet.

Braun at 2nd base could be very entertaining.

That's what I was thinking. I can see a move to first, but I don't see him having the range to play second at this point in his career.

Braun was atrocious in his one season at 3rd base... and that was a decade ago.

What does Counsell have to say about this?

I oppose the idea of moving Braun to the infield and I'm pretty sure Counsell would too. Thames and Aguilar can hold down first base. Villar and Sogard can hold down second base. It would be a big mistake defensively to try to shoehorn Braun into the infield just to get Santana's bat in the lineup. Braun, Phillips and Broxton are all much better outfielders than Santana; it's not like Counsell to sacrifice defense for offense to that extent.

It's in the best interest of all parties that the Brewers trade Santana to the AL where he can DH.

wonder if they are just trying to get up his trade value?

The problem with that idea is that I'm not sure that this statement does anything to convince potential trade partners that he can actually play 2B. Or are you saying that it's a "see, we have room for everyone here, we don't HAVE to trade Braun" kind of play?

The later...we don't have to trade him and hoping that if he does other positions he actually does ok and then trade him

Braun was absolutely terrible at third base IIRC.

I'd love to see him play second.

We could invite members of the International Pisstesters Union to come in hot on him to break up double plays.

I say let him take as many roids as he wants if we get to watch him play a middle infield position. The negative runs saved defensively would probably outweigh the added offensive production.

I’d love to see that douchemeat get taken out at second. I still think what he did to that poor pisshandler was the single shittiest thing done by an athlete since Rae Carruth.

Might be worth using Pablo Sandoval as a pinch runner just in case the situation arises.

I’d be happy to sacrifice Panda, but:

1.) He’d have to be on first; and
2.) Able to move his fat ass to second before Braun could get away

Don’t see either of those happening.

Oh, wait. You said pinch runner. That gets him on first.

It would be hard to defend against charges of premeditation either way.
