Did anyone else think they really downplayed his playing years with the Kings and focused on his career with the Avalanche? I know he won the Cup with the Avs, but he spent most of his career with the Kings and had his most productive years with the Kings as well. I always considered him to be more of a King than as an Av. It would've been like dismissing Hasek's career with the Sabres IMO.

Wondering if King fans felt the same way.

I prefer to remember him as an Av

I sort of messed up, Blake did mention the Kings during the beginning of his speech. But the way it was covered, you would think he spent most of his career and had his best season with the Avs. Guess that's more on the media than it is on Blake.

Blake is an incredibly polarizing figure among Kings fans. Some love him, some hate him.

Interesting, I didn't realize that. What did he do?

^I'm assuming it has something to do with wanting to be traded, were there other things?

I believe more people can answer that better than I can. I'm one of the younger (if not the youngest Kings fan) on this board so my understanding of the Blake situation isn't as good as say Puck, Ox or Pete.

That's cool, yeah that was a while ago.

Interesting, I didn't realize that. What did he do?

It came about when they couldn't come to terms on a contract during his final year and management told him they were going to try and trade him. He then took the "C" off his sweater (some say ripped it off but that's doubtful) and told the coach maybe they should select a new captain. That was denied of course and he was eventually sent to Colorado for Aaron Miller and Adam Deadmarsh. Not sure if anyone else was involve but those were the 2 big names. That wasn't bad enough but he then came back as a free agent after he had won his Cup with the Avalanche to supposedly finish his career as a King. After his 2-year deal was up he left for San Jose of all places as a free agent. That's pretty much how it all went down. I don't really hold any grudges against him as he was doing what he thought was best for him and his family. I'm not in favor of putting his number 4 up in the rafters but it is what it is. The Kings very seldom do what I want.
