Met him when I was 13 and considered all NHL players Gods. He was very friendly to me and my friend considering we interrupted his lunch. RIP.

hrm, when we didn't know the cause, he was a cup winner and former Canadien.

Now that it's reported as a suicide, he's a "former enforcer"...

How soon before we see articles comparing him to Rypien, Probert and Boogaard?

Depression is a monster, and any attempts to avoid dealing with it straight up are not helping. You can't quantify it, it can hit anyone regardless of race, creed, occupation or social status.

RIP, Todd. Such a shame.

Caught this tidbit in his wikipedia entry:

"The team was coached by junior hockey coach Ernie "Punch" Mclean, most noted by the teams that he assembled and inducted in the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame, but also for the fact that he survived a plane crash, a car wreck and having a bulldozer roll over him."

Holy shit!

Wow, it also sounds like he was lost in the woods of northern BC for 5 days when he was 77.

Punch is a legend around here ... New West Bruins games were broadcast on community tv here and were always entertaining

When Todd Ewen played for the Bruins, he saw time on a line with Craig Berube centred by wee man Cliff Ronning
in 84-85, Cliff got 89 goals and 197 points and Berube had 191 PIMS and Ewen had 304 PIMS

its probably shameful to celebrate something that in some way likely led to his death but those moments are what made him memorable to me ... RIP Todd Ewen
