JP is likely best known for one moment during the 72 Summit Series with the Russians where he almost killed a ref with a attempted baseball swing of his stick (lucky that he stopped himself just in time). It was so out of character as he was a true gentleman on the ice.

There was a lot of nastiness going on in that series. Can't really condemn a guy for losing it during that time.

Yeah that's the series where Bobby Clarke 2-handed a Soviet player and broke his ankle. A lot of bad blood between the 2 nations back then. I remember seeing J.P. play. Always a clean player. Sad to hear of his passing. R.I.P. J.P., and FUCK CANCER!!!!!
