Well, that is his alma mater.Green was such an icon with the Phillies organization I would think nearby colleges like University of Delaware would shut down for a couple days.....
well maybe they will shut the place down. If not you could also tell your professors you will be taking the week off to mourn the passing of Chuck BarrisWell, that is his alma mater.
RIP, Dallas
I posted this on the MLB board. I didn't see it anywhere. Anyway, I will never forget seeing Dallas in the dugout back in the day. Miss that big guy already. RIP big fella.Manager of the 1980 Phillies
Yeah, he was a good GM too. If I remember right he went to the Cubs after that and got a lot of Phillies prospects in trades (most notably Sandberg)I posted this on the MLB board. Greg Maddux, Rafael Palmeiro, Jamie Moyer, Mark Grace, and Shawon Dunston tooYeah, he was a good GM too. If I remember right he went to the Cubs after that and got a lot of Phillies prospects in trades (most notably Sandberg)
We lost Vuk in '07 or '08 and they wore a patch the whole next season (I think now he died in 2007).We have lost some very great minds of the game in this organization over the years. Just a few off the top of my head Tug, Richie, and Harry? I thought there was another? I will never forget I think it was in 1980 that Dallas lit some fire under the underachievers on that team, not named Pete Rose of course. He got them guys playing.
I can'r remember, was Samuel one of his guys going to the Cubs?Yeah, he was a good GM too. If I remember right he went to the Cubs after that and got a lot of Phillies prospects in trades (most notably Sandberg)
Never mind, he was a coach and won the WS in '80. He died in '06. .161 career batting average is the worst for any non-pitcher of all timeWe lost Vuk in '07 or '08 and they wore a patch the whole next season (I think now he died in 2007).
Not to sound insensitive, but to this day, I still have no clue why he's so beloved. Wasn't he like a .200 hitter? I could Google it, but I like keeping mysteries in my life
No, he might have been responsible for drafting Samuel but I think they ended up trading him to the Mets, maybe for Dykstra?I can'r remember, was Samuel one of his guys going to the Cubs?
Damn, you are right. Not sure why I was thinking Sammy was with the Cubbies? I'm getting old. lol.No, he might have been responsible for drafting Samuel but I think they ended up trading him to the Mets, maybe for Dykstra?
yeah me too, although I feel lucky to have been alive for both Phillies World Championships. Who knows when the next one will be.....Damn, you are right. Not sure why I was thinking Sammy was with the Cubbies? I'm getting old. lol.
Yep I was 7 when the Phils won it in '80. Heck, it seems like forever since my beloved Sixers were good and competing. I know they were good in 2000, but I mean going back to when Harold Katz owned the team and we had the greats of Barkley, Cheeks, Malone, etc.yeah me too, although I feel lucky to have been alive for both Phillies World Championships. lol, yeah after the 2 titles that unfortunately I was too young to remember the Flyers have gone into Buffalo Bills/Atlanta Braves territory in terms of wasting chances to win it all. I can't even remember exactly how many times they have lost in the finals since '80 but I think if I was counting on my fingers I'd need to use my second hand......Yep I was 7 when the Phils won it in '80. Don't even get me going on the Flyers and the Eagles. They have to turn it around soon, at least I hope.
Flyers have lost in the finals 85, 87, 97, and 2010. That has been painful. Eagles '80? to the Raiders and 2006 to Pats. Yup, it sucks. We will get our shot soon I hope.lol, yeah after the 2 titles that unfortunately I was too young to remember the Flyers have gone into Buffalo Bills/Atlanta Braves territory in terms of wasting chances to win it all.
