Damn R.I.P. MCA

I fucking hate cancer. Lost both parents to that dreadful disease.

Meh this sucks.

I guess he did not even attend the induction to the R&R HOF cause he could not travel. Too young to be gone.

RIP

I dig the Beastie Boys....I'm 43 but they were around about the time I was graduating high school....they weren't really rappers but their albums were influential to the music scene...License to Ill is a great album....and Sabatoge is one of my favorite songs...

I had no idea he was sick, such a talented musician and great humanitarian. When i heard this at work today i busted out a Beasties marathon on my iPhone... Godspeed Adam, thanks for all the good music.

My mom never really liked the Beastie Boys. I used to play them at a reasonable level in my room, and she would always bust in yelling "What's that noise?". I would just tell her she was jealous, and that it was the Beastie Boys.

honestly, I was never a fan.
I respect the hell out of the fact that they were game-changers, but never really got into their music.
I liked the "fight for your right" video, but largely because the poster that they ripped down (the green one) was a Kenny Scharf, and Kenny had signed us a bunch of his posters for our daughter when she was born, including that one.

edit: like this one, but my daughter's name is not "Maurice" (nor does she speak of the pompetous of love)

Same here

License to Ill came out my senior year in H.S., when I was in southwest Connecticut and spent a shitload of time in NYC.
We crushed that vinyl (and cassette) within an inch of it's life, then bought more.
I can only assume other parts of the country did the same, but in the NYC regional area, that album was an atom bomb. It united cultures (hip hop and punk) the way nothing had even attempted to do before.

Edit: Rick Rubin is a genius
License to Ill.. same year as Walk This way released by Run DMC.
And Kerry king (Slayer - also on Def Jam that year) sits in on a song and appears in a video.
Early years of def jam FTW.
Rick Rubin FTW.
