IMO...Ridley appeared to injure himself, or thought he did, when he went to a knee so that play was very close to the following rule:

NFL rule. Rule 7, Section 2, Article 1 (e) states that "an official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended when a runner is out of bounds or declares himself down by falling to the ground, or kneeling and making no effort to advance."

Take a look at this rule being applied to a Victor Cruz "non-fumble" in a game vs the Cards...it's very similar to Ridley's fumble call. The officials ruled Cruz was giving himself up...no fumble.

At first glance (live game speed) it looked like he got hurt.... But he did not and he was not giving himself up.. He lost his balanced, slipped lost the ball and didn't try to get it back. Good call on the field, it was a fumble. He is in BB's doghouse that's for sure now however.

Ridley didn't even move at all, just kneeled there pissing about the fumble

Yeah his feet came out from under him, this happend quite a bit yesterday, that turf seemed slippery for some reason. I am sure they will contiune to coach him up.

I would have called it the same way as that call and the call against the lions in the preseason. Either way Ridley would have been in BB's doghouse IMO.

Yeah it did on both sides... Can't use that as an excuse though (not saying you are though)... Ridley just needed to hold onto the ball tighter. He will turn it around.

Had Ridley actually tried to go after the fumble, might have not seen the bench for the whole game. The fact that he laid on the ground and did not try to recover it, showed lack of hustle. I think that was a huge part to seeing him benched.

EXACTLY. he still would have been benched but not for the rest of the game if he went for it
