Cory Schneider took a great run and made it a ridiculous one Tuesday.
If the Canucks are waiting for Schneider to lose before they start Roberto Luongo again, they could be waiting some time.
“I hope forever,” Schneider said.
Of course, he was joking. That’s not possible. We don’t think.

Schneider made 47 saves Tuesday, setting a personal record and winning his fifth in a row. He made 21 of them in the third period. And he made more than a half-dozen which should get him thank you cards from teammates who broke down defensively in front of him.
Can anyone consider benching Schneider now? His teammates better hope not. The defensive screws they tightened on their recent road trip popped off like a cheap Ikea chair kit. This was before and after Sami Salo tweaked his groin.
If Salo misses any time at all, the Canucks will need all the help they can get from their goalie.
What does it feel like when a goalie’s playing like this? Like he has all the answers, Schneider said. And maybe he does.
“You almost don’t even think about it, it just happens,” Schneider said. “You’re seeing the puck well, you’re moving and you’re almost anticipating. There are times when as a goalie nothing makes sense and you’re questioning.
“And there are times when everything makes sense.”
That describes what’s happening right now, except, of course, seeing Luongo pinned to the bench.
“It’s a little wild looking over at the bench and seeing Roberto over there,” said Curtis Sanford, who was pretty good in net for Columbus.
Did Sanford, who was once Luongo’s caddy here, ever think he’d see something like this?
“No, to be honest, I didn’t,” Sanford said. “But when you have two goalies like this and can play them both, it’s a win-win situation. You keep them both healthy and keep them both sharp, so it’s working for them.”
So, if the Canucks have a problem in goal, it’s one half the NHL will be clamouring for.
Schneider hogged the spotlight by absorbing slap shots and bailing out teammates. He was good early and a show stopper late.

“It was almost like he was made of Velcro, he was just sucking everything in,” Sanford said.

It means, unlike most mustaches, the Ride the Schneids campaign moves into December. With high-wire act saves mixed with his knack for making rebounds disappear, Schneider earned yet another start, though head coach Alain Vigneault was reluctant to say as much after the game.
“Giving up 22 shots in the third period was not exactly part of the overall plan,” Vigneault said.
“In the neutral zone we weren’t very good with the puck. When you don’t make the right plays the other team comes at you. That’s what happened tonight but Cory stood his ground and was again the best player on the ice.”
It was a 4-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Canucks fifth in a row. But it was no cakewalk. The Jackets exploited regular Canucks lapses into sloppiness early and threatened to take over the game late. Despite a three-goal win, Vancouver, at times, looked poised to be upset.
“He wants 40 or 50 (shots),” Kevin Bieksa quipped when asked about Schneider. “It’s good for his stats, it’s good for his confidence.
“No, I’m just kidding. We want to tighten up a little bit. We’re not happy with (48) shots. But he’s playing unbelievable right now. You can’t say enough about him.”
Really, you can’t.

Schneider got beat once, when the Canucks checked out of their own power play in the third period, allowing Columbus several shorthanded chances before infamous Canuck killer Sami Pahlsson slid one in.
From there, he turned everything away. The most memorable was a save on RJ Umberger who one-timed a rebound from point-blank range. It came at critical point of the game, just after Ryan Kesler put the Canucks up 3-1 in the third. The puck seemed destined to rocket through Schneiders’ five hole, but he got enough on it to make the save.
Columbus had some terrific, five alarm chances throughout the game because of Vancouver breakdowns and they started early.
Just twenty seconds after the Canucks took a 1-0 lead in the first period, Cody Hodgson coughed the puck up like a hairball in front of Schneider. Mark Letestu scooped up the mess but his shot was thwarted by Schneider.
In the middle of the first, with Jeff Carter streaking down the wing on a 3-on-1, Schneider played shot all the way and got enough of Carter’s blast. The rebound trickled by the side of the net and Carter just missed poking it in, giving Schneider one of the few lucky breaks he needed.
Schneider should be getting one of his thank you cards from Bieksa after erasing one of the defenceman’s worst mistakes late in the first. Vinny Prospal stripped Bieksa of the puck and then found himself with the puck in the slot and nothing around him but Schneider. But he couldn’t find away to get the puck around Schneider,

The Canucks got two goals in the first period, one from Daniel Sedin and the other from David Booth. Daniel wristed his in 3:19 into the game after collecting a tricky Alex Edler slapper which fooled Sanford.
Booth got his thanks to some of his best work as a Canucks. He rimmed a puck around the boards and then drove to the net, where Dan Hamhuis found him with a sweet cross-crease pass. Booth fought off Fedor Tyutin to slam the puck into the net. He later fielded more than 10 questions about whether he was feeling pressure to score.
From there, the Canucks appeared to lose interest. In the second, Rick Nash had the best chance when he pushed aside Henrik Sedin for a shot on while he was on the crease’s doorstep.

But Schneider, like he did so often, closed off any chance of a puck beating him along the goal line.

so when does Lou start again?

Schneids is #1B goalie (if you say so AV!!!) at an interesting part of the schedule

He's in against the Preds tonight who are struggling offensively ... He holds them to under 2 goals he'll probably go in Sunday at home versus the Flames who are struggling offensively ... then in to town come the Avs Tuesday who have been struggling offensively (last nights result being an outlier)

then the Canucks hit the road for Montreal

:)

SHOWCASE!!!

fucking Luongo ... dude is a roller coaster

he starts playing well ... he's moving up the goalies stats leaders list from where he was at in the basement

and then he goes and does this

Crooner Michael Buble makes guest on-ice appearance at Canuck practice. Takes shot on Luongo and hits the post. Much laughter.

DONT LET A FUCKIN CROONER BEAT YOU !!!!!
