I was in a bar last night for my fantasy draft and we were obviously keeping an eye on the game.

And the limited time RG3 played he:
-Scrambled up and to the left towards the sideline, didn't go out, took on one defender getting blasted which pinballed him into TWO other defenders who got clean shots.
-Tried to slide and do it awkwardly which led to him getting up limping
-Throw a terrible Tim Tebow esq ball.
-Throw a perfect dime on a rope.

Man the highs and lows the skins fans will go through this year!!!!

RGIII is probably one of the toughest players in the league to get a read on. He has all the skills in the world that you want in a star quarterback. He honestly could be the top quarterback in the league if (and this is a big if) he can get his head on straight.

When he runs he can be electrifying but the problem is he runs completely out of control. He acts like his back end is on fire and he just panics. He has to learn to control his body better.
He also has to learn to actually go through all of his reads. Right now he still does the old college try of looking at his first read and if that is not open looking for the first chance to run.

I think he is going to be a lot like Favre in the fact that there will be games where he is a big time hero for what he does on the field. The next week though he could have every fan wanting him gone. Now he won't have the iron man ability of Favre because he runs so much but he just doesn't always play smart.

Now having said that I will probably draft him in a couple of my fantasy leagues as he can be fantasy gold at times. He also has a ridiculous set of weapons for this upcoming year to have success so I think if healthy he could have a pretty decent year.

He still can't sense pressure in the pocket or feel where defenders are when he's in the open field.

He did have the one beautiful pass under ideal circumstances with a clean pocket.

I can see why you might think that, but I don't necessarily think that it's right. This is still only his third year in the league and I don't think that he was ever totally recovered last year. He is working with a new coaching staff this year. I don't think it's out of the question that he becomes more consistent and plays smarter in the upcoming weeks.

Mixed bag in terms of last nites showing fo sho.

I would like to point out there HAS been development in terms of reads. A few 2nd and 3rd choices last nite. Timing is still an issue.

This is gonna be an interesting year.

He still cant read defenses and throw out of the pocket on time and accurate. At this rate he wont be a starting NFL QB for long. Just saying.

I'm fine with your opinion. I simply think you're wrong to state he hasn't improved in many aspects of his game. Now sliding, smdh. If he doesn't stay healthy, none of the rest of his progress matters.

You could be right, but I disagree. The pass he threw from the pocket to Andre Roberts last night certainly was on time, and he showed quite a bit of potential his rookie year, before struggling last year while trying to come back from a serious knee injury. I think it's way too soon to count Griffin out as developing into a first-rate NFL QB.

I'm telling you guys, skins coaches need to have him take some sliding lessons over at the nationals practice facilities. That dude needs to learn to avoid unnecessary contact.

Robert Griffin just isn't that good of a QB, sorry to break this to anyone.

Hard to reconcile that with him winning Offensive Rookie of the Year in '12, finishing third in the league that year in passer rating, behind only Manning and Rodgers, and helping his team improve from 5-11 to 10-6.

RGIII is probably one of the toughest players in the league to get a read on.
Imo, he is one of the easiest. He'll be an above average QB who makes 2-4 spectacular plays a game and will have a season ending injury sometime in the first half of the season

RGIII showed that he's learned nothing in the offseason.

He can't slide correctly, can't avoid the big hits, panics and can't sense pressure until its right on him.

He's got a lot to prove this year.

I still cant believe how much he is still limping as well. Its all in his head. I just dont seee with his small frame and his inability to read defenses yet him lasting long. Never know Im wrong every so often. Just saying.

ESPN has brainwashed people into thinking a few big plays makes one good and also that QB's win and lose games not teams. I try to avoid watching that shit and come up with my own opinions. Just like when I said Seatle would destroy Denver. I didnt want to be right but of course I was. Defense wins Championships but Sportscenter(ESPN) loves offense which you saw from Denver during the regular season. How much more of Johnny Football can one take as well? Guy hasnt done shit yet. Just saying.

Speaking only to the highlighted portion of your post, since you went in several directions after that, are you asserting that RG3 is nothing more than an artifact of eSpiN? As I posted above, I find that hard to reconcile with the fact that, in his rookie year, RG3 was third in the entire league in passer rating, trailing only Manning and Rodgers.

My take on RG3.

His 1st two seasons the coaching staff relied on his athletic ability because that was the best way to get instant production from the position with him as the starter.

Shanny was not a read-option guy so I would have the think the plan was to ease the pro style component into the OFC, but he got hurt, and then obviously they were let go.

So...RG3 is really just now starting to "learn" how to be an NFL pocket passer instead of a guy that could throw, but was more comfortable making plays himself. The poster who spoke of him not yet reading DEFs...he's always known how to read a DEF...the entire read option OFC is based on reading the DE...what he really meant was reading the safetys...knowing where your 1 on 1 matchup is, where do you go with the ball is this guy blitzes, if that guy blitzes, etc....transforming from a playmaking QB to a QB that gets the ball to the playmakers takes more than a preseason.

WAS made a huge investment into RG3...I think they will afford him the time to develop into a winning QB...in the interim...fans are just going to have roll with the punches.
