Report: RG3 drawing interest from 'at least 10 teams'

If so, there is really no reason why GMSM can't finagle a draft pick - or perhaps a bidding war - over his services, right?

I mean, if ten teams are vying for his services, then it's unlikely that any ONE team will sign him. If you're the Browns, for example, I can't imagine that you think you can compete with the Texans (RG3's home state, a chance to start), Raiders (raiders mystique, good wr's, good rb's), or Rams (LA, Todd Gurley, chance to start). You MUST trade for him...

I don't know about any of you, but a later punk draft pick or two would be just fine by me!

I fully understand the situation. I still think that GMSM should be able to talk some team - like the Browns, for e ample - into trading for RG3 with the benefit for RG3 being a chance to start. "Redo your contract so we can trade for you, and you can start here."

Something like that.

Rg3 is not going to redo his contract just so the Redskins get a draft pick. RG3 will pick and choose where he wants to go after he gets released. There was no reason why we have him that extension from last offseason now it bite us in the ass.

God I hope the Browns don't trade away their farm just to obtain Mr. Griffin. They have a history of some really bone-headed decisions. Yes, it would bode well for the Skins but I will feel really sorry for the fans who love their Browns if they do something stupid to obtain this guy.

Agree with Dean and DGF. A trade isn't happening because there is no incentive for RG3 to redo his contract.

I also severely doubt if 10 teams are seriously interested. I bet this came from Allen's office as a last attempt to generate some trade interest.

Think GMSM could help bromer a deal, pressuring both sides to get something done, but I suppose you guys are right: the only incentive for RG3 to renegotiate his deal is if the redskins already had a deal in place to somewhere he didnt want to go. Like Cleveland, because......its Cleveland.

The flip side is that Cleveland should know that they are Cleveland, and work like hell to secure a deal with RG3 before he goes to Houston, LA, or frankly anywhere else but Cleveland!

Fact, we could have released Griffin as of Tuesday.
Fact, had we released him as of Tuesday we would NOT need to redo any deals in order to get under the cap.
Fact, Griffin does NOT have to redo his deal in order to facilitate a trade. The team taking him simply has to have the cap room to carry his cap hit.

So the reality is, until Thursday at 4:00 PM, a trade remains in play and is the only logical reason to hold onto him. If you dont think the team is trying to work a trade out, then the only other reason to hold him at present is out of spite. And all this could have been avoided by releasing him two months ago if the GM really thought there was no chance to get something in return for him.

Oh I understand the team is still exploring options, why not? But I'm not sure the union would allow the player to simply drop the value of his contract, it sets a dangerous precedent. And nobody is trading at the current number and no team will "trade the farm" for this guy.

Exactly. I could this still see this working out for us IF a team that Griffin would be willing to play for really wants him to compete to be the starter AND most importantly gives him a reasonable contract offer. If he gets released by us, he is back to square one anyway l. IF he can swallow his pride ($$$$) he probably has a couple of places in mind where he would get good money and a chance to compete for an already decent team.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Ummm - I believe that this about more than swallowing pride. People act as if these transactions are in funny money. We are talking about actual cash. Would any of you just say "whatever" if you had to give up say $5-10 million? I don't think so.

On the flip side another team's GM would have to be pretty careful about committing cap money to RG3 via trade & then hoping for a deal to be worked out. Other GMs have lost their jobs over a lot less. A team like Cleveland should especially be scared & IMO their best option is to draft a QB & be patient.

Not saying that some team won't trade for RG3, but I would bet against it & some folks are reading way too much into some things. That being said I would be thrilled about the Redskins getting anything for him since it would help the team. I am way past the whole revenge against RG3 motive & it is now time for the team to just do whatever it takes to improve.
