all the thresholds have gone up

anyone think we might see a 7,835,218 per season offer for Shea Weber?

An offer with a $1,034,249 annual cap hit or less: No compensation

$1,034,249 -- $1,567,043: Third-round pick

$1,567,043 -- $3,134,088: Second-round pick

$3,134,088 -- $4,701,131: First and third-round pick

$4,701,131 -- $6,268,175: First, second and third-round pick

$6,268,175 -- $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third

$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks

Nope, the Preds are going to lock him up with a slight hometown discount and Flames fans will cry in their beer every time an offensive rush dies at the end of the stick of Jay Bouwmeester.

i think the preds will match any offer (well 4 1st round picks looks tempting) but you really think he will give a "home town discount"?

i mean it would be great if he re-signs before July 1 at a discount and sets the market becoming THE comparable for other dmen (even ufa's)

I expect him to sign for 6.5m for at least 4-5 years thereby leaving at least one million per season on the table.

you dont think he'll feel pressure from the union to wait on signing so others can get paid

He may, but Iggy and Jumbo Joe signed deals for considerably less than market value. I know Weber is probably looking to cash in, but 6.5 million in Nashville is nothing to sneeze at.

I would imagine if the Devils can't resign Parise he'll get right around $6,268,175, so it's tough to say what kind of compensation we'd get. But I'd imagine he'll be back.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me, but I have a feeling that Weber will be locked up before then.

The other thing to keep in mind is: Shea Weber is a stud, but if you take him away from Ryan Suter, how good is he? Maybe Weber knows he's got a good thing in Nashville.

imo its the other way around ... remember Weber & 210 during the world juniors? Webers play allowed 210 to do things on ice that made 210 look better than he truly was

speaking of which... Suter is a a UFA next summer too.
so whatever they do with Weber, they need to plan ahead a bit.

Very true...Geez, why didn't Dutter wait until the off-season to move 210 and have all 30 teams in play for his services?

I expect the Oilers to try something. I'm just not sure who it's going to be. Who's the most overrated RFA on the market this offseason?

OILERS REQUIREMENT: must be under 5'10

Does anyone else think the picks you have to give up for some of the higher level RFAs are a little steep? Just an opinion, but they seem so to me.

Any thoughts?

imo and in a perfect world (ie nashville doesnt match and Weber wants to leave) ... if Im Canucks GM Mike Gillis, the highest I would go is $6,268,174 for Weber (First, second and third-round pick) ... probably the only player i would do it for

/and yes its steep ... you get a huge cap hit and you gut your future drafts

No. Heck the Islanders signed Grabner for 5 years at a 3 million dollar cap hit.

If some team really wants an RFA they should have to pay through the nose for him. Both in salary & compensation.
