-LOL!!! One of these days programs will learn to not fuck with the people who got them there
I have never heard of a single outgoing coach who told the players he recruited that they should look around and that he would call coaches on their behalf.
It's wrong and if true, will cause the University to bar him from future contact. It makes me wonder if he is getting senile.
1) This probably is true. What reason would Bonney have to make this up?
2) I don't give a single fuck.
First, Mack is one of the few coaches who really truly does care about what is best for the kids. That carries with it pros and cons, and we Horns fans have always know that. This is the same coach who will waste scholarships on kids he had previously made a promise to, before signing day, even though something bad happened to them and he knew they would never play football again. In his words: "I offered the scholarship to the young man, not the football player." We applauded him for that.
This is the same coach who would not grey shirt or over sign, because he would not break a promise. We applauded him for that.
This is the same coach who ran one of the cleanest programs in the BCS era, and we applauded him for that.
Now we want to throw him under the buss for taking the same interests in the kids that he always did, and what we always respected him for???
Second, this was probably reported way out of context. Mack recruited these kids. They agreed to play football for him. Now as he is forced to resign he meets with the kids to tell them face to face. Obviously there was a conversation, and if he sensed they didn't feel comfortable - what is he supposed to say? No, you have no choice? Things have changed but you still must stay? Of course not. He tells the kids, hey if you don't feel comfortable then go look around. We hope you come back here, but make the right decision for yourself. Nothing wrong with that.
If this is true, this should be grounds to officially fire mack and not have to pay his buyout. Its not a huge deal, but it did do serious damage to this recruiting class.

Read the article my take is this kid grossly misunderstood what Mac told him it just doesn't pass the smell test. He probably said something like "take your visits and make the best decision" you know something along the lines of the no pressure soft sale which would fit Mac's personality (or my impression of it anyway).
I would hold off erasing him from the history books just yet.
