Schebler had a nice first game back, but unless he significantly alters his approach it won't last. Averge talented guy with a all or nothing approach.
Duvall moved to RF. I thought that might be in his future. Whenever, if ever, Winker makes the big club he'll most likely play LF.
Yorman Rodriguez is still out with the hammy. If he ever gets healthy they'll have to play him to evaluate where he fits in, if anywhere.
Interesting to hear Homer blasting the FO for trading Bruce.
Hard to believe Votto has the BA up to .293 after watching the way he struggled into June. That's back to back seasons where he's having night and day halves.
Schebler will hit 15 HR over a season, strike out 150 times. That ball left the yard.
I nave heard zilch about the issues with Yorman. I assume he's sandbagging.
This is probably a stretch to be germane to the thread, but whatever....
I think in the case of the Reds, snoozin' is losin' if a guy wants to make this roster. Clearly Williams is looking for younger and cheaper. OF now looks like it could easily contain Peraza next year while he either awaits Phillips' departure or is part of another trade. Since Winker will get a shot soon and, I assume, Waldrop will get another shot ... it looks like Yorman needed to heal and stay that way. He's going to go elsewhere, I imagine.
Senzel, evidently, is on something of a track to play 3B, so that might shove Suarez into an outfield mix.
Not clear what to make of Philip Ervin.
One would hope that Cody Reed's attitude hasn't changed.
What would be worse if if he tries to fix his mechanics before he knows what he is doing wrong.
I would guess he is tipping his pitches if he's getting no strikeouts.
You would think that he would at least figure something out by now. I have seen better pitchers than Reed sent back down. Then again this season is a bust anyway.
Cheeeeeeez-us ... this guy can't even get people out in Louisville.
Reds' J.J. Hoover: Clears waivers, outrighted to Triple-A Louisville
Hoover was designated for assignment after compiling a 4.76 ERA over his last 10 appearances for Triple-A Louisville but did not get picked up by another club during his waiver period and will remain with Cincinnati. He'll head back to Louisville where he'll reassume a 3.71 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 26.2 innings for the minor league affiliate.
The DFA is of little consequence. Why are they making room on the 40 man is the more important part of the equation? Dumping Hoover brings the 40 man down to 39.
Tony Renda is the latest player to be added and called up and never see the field. The Reds do that to the point of nauseum. I guess Price is making a playoff run playing his starters....yeah....righ!
Can't complain about the seconds half w/l up to this point. The first time in a couple decades the Reds have won this many series in a row. Didn't see that coming.
Renda, like Selsky and Waldrop, seem like placeholders for the "really big deal" that's down the road.
Most likely it's a dead skunk.
The recent success is due mostly to the fact that the Reds now have 2 decent-to-good starters and a couple of guys who have found the acorn. Three good starters will almost assure you of a .500 record. Four of them, and you can print tickets. Anything less than that and you win 12 games a month.
Related, the Giants started with 3 really good starters, needed a fourth ... and now they are finding that they have two-and-a-half good starters. The gap between the Reds and the Giants currently is not that great.
Ross Ohlendorf is a gopher ball waiting to happen kind of pitcher. He allowed 1.9 HR/9 last season and it's not surprising he's allowing 1.9 this season.
The bullpen has been moving in the right direction. Now they need to get a couple guys like Ross Ohlendorf going in the right direction. That direction would be anywhere but in Cincinnati.
