40. Pitt WR Tyler Boyd
6-1, 197 pounds

Key stat: In 2015, Boyd accumulated 926 receiving yards, 349 rushing yards, 257 kickoff-return yards, 67 passing yards and 8 punt-return yards (1,539 all-purpose yards). In 2014, he accumulated 1,261 receiving yards, 63 rushing yards, 442 kickoff-return yards, 29 passing yards and 162 punt-return yards (1,928 all-purpose yards).

The skinny: Asked to fill in for a shorthanded backfield, Boyd became a part-time running back as a junior before declaring early for the 2016 draft. He also was limited to a possession role as a receiver because of the Panthers' quarterback play and lack of weapons around him in the passing game but still found ways to get open despite opponents designing their game plan to stop Boyd. He was a high-volume performer in his three seasons in school and was a jack of all trades for a team the lacked other playmakers outside of running back James Connor, who missed all of last season. After running a 4.58 40-yard dash at the combine, Boyd shaved off a bit at his pro day with a 4.50.

Some of you have been talking about Braxton Miller.....

Reason he'll rise in draft: Miller is a special athlete — his three-cone drill and shuttle times at the combine show that — with great open-field running ability. So do his two 1,000-yard rushing seasons as a college quarterback. He also appears to be quite coachable and fully committed to a position switch that really could pay off in a year or two. NFL teams like his intelligence and personality.

I hope the Pats load up on O-linemen and more D.

Fix that O-line and with relative good health for the team as it is currently constituted I think they can be pretty darn good.

Unless we can find a Left Tackle or convert a prospect, I don't think we'll improve this line with the draft(this year)
Remember, we were 10-0 with this line with a poor line coach, until the injuries set in.
Look for help but don't reach......

Southie the two guys you linked above I guess to me they sound a lot like the type of players you guys already have. They can fill multiple roles which I know BB covets but still I just think the Pats would benefit so much more from a different style of receiver than what they already have. Get that big outside threat that makes teams have to respect the sidelines opening up the middle for Bennett and Gronk to do damage along with your quick WR's over the middle.

NE doesn't pick til the end of RD 2. How many tall, fast stud WR's will be on the board at that point? And remember, you have to be pretty smart to get this offense. Pure athleticism ain't gonna cut it so the field gets narrowed down even further.

Well you might have to trade up a bit for him but Michael Thomas comes to mind. 6'3" player. Had offers to attend some of the top military academy's in the country so my guess is his intelligence is pretty high. Also comes from NFL bloodlines as his uncle is Keyshawn Johnson. He is also known for being a very detailed oriented person when it comes to how he runs his routes.

Kenny Lawler in the 3rd might be an option. Not the fastest player by any means but he has the height and athletic jumping ability and natural hands to really win those one-on-one battles. Needs to add some NFL weight to his frame but could be an ideal guy on the outside for the Patriots.

Don't follow college ball so I can't say I know much about these guys. Trading up is an option I suppose, but with the needs on the O-line I would think (hope :noidea:) it would be to get a guy that projects to be a stud LT or guard.

Well the idea of a stud LT through the draft is kind of funny. The OL especially the OT position has shown it has become the biggest risk of any high draft pick. Only 1 player taken in the 1st round of the draft has shown that he came into the league ready to do well from the get go. All others that have played the Tackle position have struggled mightily for the first 2 years of being in the league. So you are drafting them with the though that year 3 is where you actually see your investment pay off.

As for WR Michael Thomas is probably the one guy in the 2nd or beyond that I think fits everything the Patriots would want with that outside WR. As much as Braxton Miller has gotten the hype Michael Thomas was actually the best WR on Ohio State for the past couple of years. He isn't great at one thing but he doesn't have any outstanding weaknesses either. But trading up for a WR is not always the best option either as it is such a dependent position on the QB and Brady has shown he can take no names and make them a household name.

8. Michael Thomas, Ohio State — 6-3, 212 — Gifted athlete with big frame who could be a solid pro if he can clean up his technique and route running a bit

We have let a lot of guys go who cannot run crisp routes

. Tyler Boyd, Pitt — 6-1, 197 — Ideal No. 2 receiver who lacks raw speed but runs razor-sharp routes, has excellent hands and is terrific in the red zone for his size

I'll take Boyd.....
