From Sportsnet:

The Toronto Raptors are shopping the No. 8 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, according to Chad Ford of ESPN.

The Raptors are said to be looking to acquire an established wing player and Ford's report claims the team has targeted Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay and Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo has reportedly let teams know that the pick is available if they are able to acquire the proven small forward they are looking for.

The Raptors are expected to have last season's first round pick Jonas Valanciunas in the lineup this season, so the team may prefer to add a veteran presence instead of two, unproven rookies.

It remains to be seen if the Raptors will be able to move the pick but they could be targeting a point guard such as Weber State's Damian Lillard or a wing scorer such as Syracuse's Dion Walters, UConn's Jeremy Lamb if they decide to keep the draft pick.

The 2012 NBA Draft will take place on June 28.

It could get worst. It appears we might be packaging the 8th + Burger for Gay and someone. Memphis needs to clear cap in the worst way, so they're going to look to load some more salaries on us. And Salesman's ready to deal because he wants vets on our team

The plot thickens (from Mark Stein):

The Toronto Raptors know exactly what they want out of the 2012 NBA draft:

An established, athletic wing man.

And that's why the Raptors have already made it known to rival teams that their lottery pick on June 28 -- No. 8 overall -- is available to a trade partner that can provide the elite small forward they seek, according to sources close to the situation.

With a slew of league execs having converged on Chicago this week for the NBA's annual pre-draft camp, sources told ESPN.com that the Raptors have at least two known trade targets: Memphis swingman Rudy Gay and Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala.

The Raptors, sources said, are prepared to part with their lottery pick in this month's draft at least partly because they have a lottery pick on the way. Lithuanian star Jonas Valanciunas, selected No. 5 overall by Toronto in the 2011 draft, is poised to join the Raptors next season after the young 7-footer quickly established himself as one of the most exciting big men in Europe.

Yet it remains to be seen whether Toronto can manufacture the other assets needed to go with the No. 8 to tempt Memphis or Philly or any other team that surfaces with a top swingman available. Veteran point guard Jose Calderon (who possesses an expiring contract in 2012-13) and young big man Ed Davis are among the players that the Raptors would conceivably be willing to put into a trade package.

As ESPN.com reported Sunday, Toronto also plans to be a determined suitor in free agency for Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash, hoping to bring Canada's former Olympic basketball captain and newly installed general manager of the senior national team back to home soil.

But if the Raptors decide, in the end, not to make a draft-night deal and keep the pick, they're expected to focus on the top guards that could be available at No. 8. Sources say that Toronto is intrigued by Syracuse's Dion Waiters, UConn's Jeremy Lamb and Weber State's Damian Lillard.

I forget who Sphinxter is again. James Johnson?

Bryan Colangelo is a moron. I hate all this bull shit short term thinking, and its all because the Raptors are run by a bunch of accountants trying to turn a dollar into a dollar ten.

I'm always suspicious when a team is just willing to let go a guy like that too. Fuck this shit man. Our only hope is if Vajayjay is the real mccoy and gets this team in line, and fucks up the league.

Yup, Sphinx is Johnson. I don't think we're letting him go though. He's still signed, right? I can see him being pretty damn good for our second unit. It's too bad he won't be a starter in the near future though. If he had a jumpshot, he would be unstoppable.

im pretty sure he's from roseannes draft so raps should have an option 1 year. If they're looking for a rudy flames or underbite andre then i doubt hes in their plans for the future. remember late last season after playig well he was benched for a few and put in casey shitlist, he did something to piss off the coaching staff

Why would the Raptors want Iggy's contract? Philly is loaded with swingmen so I can completely understand why they would be interested in trading Iggy.

2 reason
1. The raps car salesman president who is really still the teams gm behind closed doors loves bad contracts
2. With reggie evans gone the team has clearly been lacking a true underbite

My take:

Used Car Salesman is desperate for a veteran swing man right now with a proven track record and name recognition to anchor this young team. Knowing how difficult it has been to attract free agents in the past and considering how we actually are one of the few teams with cap space this offseason, Colangelo is likely willing to eat a contract, knowing that the player might not be worth that much, but will still achieve this objective.
