The Rams are pulling out all the stops to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Greatest Show on Turf. That includes two games with glorious throwback jerseys.

I thought this could make an interesting thread in light of yesterday's Ram Day!

I thought it was kinda iffy at the time. Be somebody did their homework. All in all it was a gutz call.

The old blue and yellow combination was my favorite because when I first started watching football those were the colors the Rams uniforms/helmets were. For nostalgic reasons, but also I just think it looks the best----very distinctive.


But for best looking helmet in the NFL......I'd have to go with Oakland.

What got me on this was a comment by the female commentator on the NFL network just prior to the start of Rams Day on the NFL network.

The group started talking about the unis of the 1999 team and someone brought up the original blue and white's. That's when the gal chirped in and said there were two dates (One being against the niners) that would feature the Rams in the Blue and Whites. It got me excited however either she misstated the event or I just didn't hear her right. Probably the later. Sometimes we hear what we want to hear.

The most significant celebration event will come on Monday, Oct. 13 when the Rams host NFC West rival San Francisco on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The Rams will wear their blue and yellow throwback jerseys as they host the 49ers, and members of the 1999 team will be recognized at halftime.

Just a few more details on the subject.

I think I'll be wearing throwbacks on those dates to match them myself.

The white and blue won't be on display any time soon...I forgot which, but there is either a 3 or 5 year lead time...The league has to be notified that far in advance that a particular throwback is going to be used...Haven't heard anything (And I'm sure we would have) that any notice has been given to the league...Don't really understand why...I prefer the blus and gold, but would also love to see the white and blue...They were the Ram colors when i became a fan...

When I started watching the Rams, it seems to me they were Blue and White. I don't remember any red or black, but maybe they used those colors in their earlier days.

The Cleveland Rams were born in 1937. The original Rams unis were Red, Black, and White. Incidently, Kevin Demoff for the present day St. Louis Rams has intimated the Rams are thinking about a unis re-design of the present unis that may include the original Red, Black, and White colors.

Those Red, Black, and White colors were changed the next year in 1938 to Navy Blue, Gold, and White. Those colors stuck until 1940 when the unis were changed to Royal Blue, Gold, and White.

When the team was bought by Dan Reeves and Fred Levy in 1946 and moved to LA, they went to the Royal Blue and White unis colors that many affiliate with old school Rams until 1972. The Yellow and Blue unis colors pictured above came about in 1973 and those are the colors we won our only Superbowl with while in LA.

So, we did have Red, Black, and White in our past. FYI, Fred Gerkhe was credited for designing those horns we all fell in love with the first time we saw them play.

Exactly right retro. It was the Blue and White I fell for in 1960. Whatever colors the Rams have been, it has been the horns the brought the little kid interest.
