Dean, its been proven time and time again in the NFL, YOU DONT DRAFT FOR NEED! You keep saying we needed a FS more than a SS. We needed both. Hell, one could argue that we needed a RT more than a FS. SO should our first pick have been a RT? We, and almost all NFL teams draft best player available with the understanding of need as a secondary consideration. You comment if the team knew if Thomas was a SS is comical. Due you really think that they didn't know what position he played in college just because you think we needed a FS more than a SS? Warpath is right, you are just being whinny at this point. Please stop beating a dead horse and give the FO more credit. They have done a hell of a job turning this franchise around.

I give this franchise a lot of credit. Especially for the RG3 trade. I just disagree on who the Skins thought were the BPA at the time we were picking. A lot of people disagree with the Amerson and Reed picks. Im not the only one. But hey I am routing for them now.

Taking it back to the good ole ESPN days...I will slightly disagree with you on drafting for NEED. Teams do it. They have to. Good and bad teams do it. Now Good teams can pass on immediate needs in the 1st and 2nd round and take the BPA. Bad teams who need a tackle or QB in the first round...will not take the Best RB or TE with that first pick, because it isn't the most important need.

Good teams and teams that are on the verge of being good can. we were in a unique situation not having a 1st round pick and not having money either. I must humbly admit that you BPA guys were right this year in the draft though....even though we were extremely fortunate...

I thought you didn't like the Reed pick Skinemall? Niles Paul is having a solid camp at TE.

At the time, I too was concerned about Safety depth...also Reed was a carbon copy of Niles Paul, undersized, quick, poor blocker...so I was worried. But Paul has been working his butt off, Fred Davis could get hurt again and Paulsen is a solid player/blocker. He is in a great position to develop

then you disagree dean but the fact is in the end their judgement was correct . they got players who are good and they got rambo for a need

i dont agree that the best player available is the way to draft

i think you target need 1st and if value is there you make the pick . if value isnt there then you pick the best player on the board

i dont believe in luck . i believe you make your own luck . the skins played the draft to a "T" and they were rewarded for it

to me it doesnt make sense to make an arguement that they should have picked rambo sooner when they got him anyway :suds:

you really couldn't ask for a better draft. The League had to be excited....they thought they were going to screw us...from what I hear Synder's past contracts were frowned upon by smaller teams like Buffalo and Jacksonville.
So to have no #1 pick and a cap penalty???? we did great.

3 ball hawks that may all be starters next year, a projected 2nd round OLB, a quality TE and baby sproles and baby rice at RB.

LOL - NFL....LOL @ you commish!!!

The thing is you would have taken players much earlier than they actually went based on panic for team need. The way the team handled it turned out much better. They received good value in every round.

Not really. 2nd Swearinger, 3rd Amerson(yes he would of been there), 4th Rambo , 5th Jenkins. In my opinion I think Swearinger is a better player than Reed and Thomas. Would anyone trade Reed and Thomas for Swearinger? I do it in a heartbeat.

A perfect example of a team drafting for need and over reaching is the Cowboys this year. Jerry needed a Center so he took, with his first pick, a guy that he could have gotten for sure in the 2nd and maybe even the 3rd. That has a ripple effect right down your draft.

We didn't reach on Rambo because our league scouting intelligence told us we didn't need to. They were right, and thankfully, Dean, you were wrong.

Best player available holds true year after year. It just builds a better football team. We have seen it on this team. Guys like Fred Davis and Kirk Cousins are great examples. Good teams that are good year after year take this approach. That is not to say you should not target an area of need, but a team should not reach very far to fill that need if there is a substantially better player at another position available.

its a combination of both . you target a need 1st . if value isnt there then you look at BPA . it makes no sense for the skins to take a qb next season (2nd round ) if you have Rg3 and cousins if the BPA on the board is a qb . you simply dont get value there . however taking a 5th round rated RT doesnt make sense either in round 2 .

i think you try to fill needs if value is there and if it isnt then you take the best players :suds:

And every one we drafted has a good chance of contributing to this team and aside from one of the RBs who will likely be on the practice squad.. most of our draft picks will see the field this year. And Im not even sure Royster beats out the rookies for a roster spot. I expect him to, but wont be shocked if we go into the season with Morris, Helu, Thompson and Jamison at the position.

It's exactly what I have been saying. Its his job to lose b/c there is no competiton. He would really have be burnt badly in the preseason to lose this job.

There's also the fact that he's doing really well. But you can ignore that if you like.
