Unlike Li Na, Stan actually beat the best to earn his first GS as he beat the top 2 in attention to another top 10 player in Berdych in the final 3 rounds

Very happy for Wawrinka.

It's rewarding to see him beat Djokovic, Berdych, and Nadal, and have a Grand Slam win to show for it.

Is it just me or anytime Rafa is in trouble in a GS, he calls for the trainer?

Stan is the first man since Sergi Brugera at the FO in 1993 to defeat the #1 & #2 seeds in a GS

Now watch everyone blame Rafa injuries for this result.

I'm so happy for Stan. He's played such solid tennis over the years. That backhand is so magical. He's just never been able to put it all together before now. He went from never being higher than #8 to all of a sudden being #3. Great for him.

As for Nadal, he's now 5-6 in GS finals outside of the French. Heck, he's only made 14 total semis away from the French. To put that into persepective, Fed is 10-6 outside of Wimbledon with 26 total semis. At some point, people need to realize that for all his grittiness, he's never been a dominant hard courter. He's clearly the #3 hard courter of his era.

Good win for Stan. I may have a new favorite player behind Fed.

People are not giving Stan enough credit for a great win! Rafa was injured.....for a short time! Stan took him to the cleaners! He played his heart out. I think a lot of the "experts" were wrong, now they are trying to say the Rafa was beaten cuz he was hurt. This was a huge win for Stan!

And I love the way Stan celebrated after the win! He was humble and calm, and he had a lot of respect for Rafa. Some players like Sloane Stephens could take a page out of his book. You don't "rub it in" when you win a legend!!!

Through it all, Stan was THE man!!!!!

No, it is not only you. A lot of Federer supporters think that way too. They never saw the injury on the Rafa's serving palm that needed attention. Rafa does not need to give it as an excuse since even the Rafa fanatic recognizes the unbelievable elevated play of Stan Wawrinka. It would have made little difference considering the game Stan had throughout the tournament.

This is a great point but what Rafa does have over Fed when comparing the 2 legacies once both careers are done is that he absolutely dominated Fed Head to Head and also unlike Fed who won on Rafa's favorite surface without beating him, Rafa on the other hand beat Fed in a classic at Wimbledon.

It comes down to how much someone values dominating the field like FED does, but having a poor H2H against one player.

Whereas Nadal wasn't as strong against the field, but had a strong H2H against a top player in FED.

It's the sort of debate that just matters on personal preference.

OT: I don't like comparing the # of GS SF or GS QF FED made, with Connors, because Connors skipped the AO most years, and he was also banned from the FO for a few years. So it's not consecutive, like FED's was. We'll never know how many of the QF or SF he would have made in the skipped tournaments, because he didn't play.
