Any oldtimers remember Jerry Lynch? He was one of the best pinch-hitters in baseball back in the 50s and 60s. He played for the Pirates in the mid-50s, was traded to the Reds (where he was a key member of their 1961 NL championship team), and then traded back to the Pirates in 1963. His last season was 1966.

Only one player of that era was a better pinch-hitter than Lynch, and that was the original Smokey Burgess, who also played for the Pirates and Reds.

Rest in Peace, Jerry.

Sure..... I fondly remember Jerry Lynch. He was one of my favorite Pirates back in the day. (To be truthful, just about all Pirates were my favorites back in the 50's and 60's.) Lynch was one of those special hitters (as was Burgess) who seemingly could fall out of bed and get a base hit.
