What were the similarities and differences between the two nations?

Is your government as incompetent as the US government?

How hard is it to get a job or start a business?

I've lived and work in the US in the past and I think there are many more similarities than differences. If you have a skillset that is in high demand, it's relatively easy as a Canadian to find work in either country (a letter from my US employer, my university degree, and 60 US dollars is all it takes to get a temporary US work visa for a 1 year period).

If you want more details, feel free to send me a PM.

I lived in Los Angeles for one year. I was there as a student so I didn't have to deal with too much government. I will say though, that I did have to "sneak" my way into the country as Regan decided that anyone - even pardoned - with a marijuana conviction, wouldn't be allowed to enter the USA. Luckily, this was before the time of the interwebs so I got away with kind of sneaking in.

Oh, and I did get a ticket for jaywalking in L.A. (fucking jaywalking?). I decided not to pay, but the girlfriend sent the L.A.P.D. a check anyways for 10 bucks -- the amount of the fine. Of course she didn't realize her money was in Canadian funds so they promptly sent her a notice that unless she sent them $242 dollars (about 600 in todays dollars), I would have a warrant out for my arrest. She refused, so now I'm a fugitive to California...lol
I'm not so sure that would ever happen in Canada, although that's more an indictment of L.A. than the USA.

Longer, wider field
12 players instead of 11
3 downs instead of 4
Our balls are bigger

And the best part is that there's no monopoly on names. You like the name (Roughriders perhaps?), then everyone is free to use it.

If things get too bad for us down here in the states, then I may have to head up north.

My list of nations to go after the US are 1. Australia, 2. New Zealand, 3. Canada.

I suppose all three of these nations are a lot like US (former British colonies, speak English, judeo-Christian background, Representation Government, Free Enterprise (although socialism is mixing in a lot with both).

Also Americans, Australians, New Zealanders, and Canadians have always been close having been on the same side during the Cold War, War on Terror, WW1, and WW2.

Don't forget, to get to Canada from Detroit you go south and from Buffalo you go west.

Labatt Blue tells me the entire country is north of Buffalo:

OK, just an excuse to dust off the commercial.

Wow! Canadians get free rental cars? Nice perk.

This thread reminds me of my freshman year in college. Our wing of the dorm had a bulletin board and our R.A. was supposed to put up themed information on the board (study tips, the dangers of binge driking, etc.) to make us more 'sponsible students. He did one at the start of the year and then left it. We made fun of the R.A. for it and told him we would all turn into drunken delinquents without these life lessons and started to make them ourselves. Our first was called "Where do hot dogs come from?" You may not know this, but hot dogs are 41% koala bear. The second and final board (our attention spans were short was called "Canada... The Danger Nearby" and detailed the grave danger Canada posed to America. The boards drew curious looks and disapproving scowls from visiting parents. Good times.

I like the ocean ... no matter how polluted and the mountains/forests ... no matter how clearcut

someone should somehow work that into a provincial song

/calgary weather a little too unpredictable, no? forecast 5 degrees and you get 25 ... at worst here, the forecast is 25 mm rain and you get 150mm

Yeah, it's the blessing (and curse) of being in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The storms have a habit of blowing in just after 6 pm (right when your tennis or slo-pitch game is starting)
