Why was the flyers second goal allowed, I thought you couldnt be in the crease before the puck and Hartnell was just laying there while timmonen took his shot.
...well, i think the crease rule was axed after the lockout.
I'm not 100% sure, but I thought the rule still exists, it's just now it's the referees discretion not black and white foot in the crease before the puck = no goal like it was back in the late 90s sans Brett Hull's goal. If someone in the know could clarify whether or not the was rewritten or completely wiped out though, I would like to know.
To answer the OP basically the player has to be interfering with the goalie for a goal to be called back.
I think the in the crease rule was replaces with the "new" goaltender interference rule. As long as you are not preventing the goalie from making a play on the puck you can be in the crease. This has lead to the problem that whenever a player touches the crease the goalie loses all muscle control and falls with his arms flailing and stick flying.
