Question: Is it worth it to risk losing a matchup and going into the second half at 3-5 if you think the injured/bye guys you have stashed could make your team a worthwhile opponent going forward?

On the bench for bye: Marshall/TRich

Injured: Harvin, Roddy, James Jones, Andre Brown.

Problem is that unless Harvin shocks the world i'm short a receiver, but I think i'd rather take the chance than drop someone for a one week replacement.

I guess my question really is: Do you think 3-5 and maybe 3 games back is too much to overcome?

nothing is out of the question...

one league last year, I started 0-4, then didn't lose again until the championship.

one league I started 5-0, acquired the real CJ2K to pair with AP, finished 7-6, and barely made the playoffs, lost in the 1st round.

if your starters are capable, there's nothing wrong with planning for the future.

Maybe. The answer depends on what is available on the FA list. You could drop some of these guys and then lose anyway this week, thereby reducing your chances of winning in the future.

You can come back from 3-5 if those hurt guys come back strong. You will need at least 4 wins from here on out to make the playoffs, so this is a tricky question.

If you do indeed decide to drop a player, Roddy would be the choice for me because he is getting older and playing for a losing team. Sounds crazy, but you have a bunch of really good WRs, so you could afford to lose one. They all have similar upside vs. risk though, so it is a hard choice.

Not something I would do. Not with Andre Brown, who is nothing special, and no guarantee to have a significant role when he comes back. Hillis was moderately impressive, Jacobs was servicable, and Brown is just, well, ehhh. Not to mention he hasn't played all year and who knows if he's even still at the "ehh" level. I wouldn't take a zero just to hang onto him. .especially since he's still got a bye coming.

It depends on who you can pick up. I wouldn't drop a player I like for a one week scrub that may not even score.

I would drop one of your guys for a WR. You can't play all of them in a week anyway. I would probably drop Brown and hope the points you get from his replacement makes a difference.

Thanks for the comments guys, all good points. If I were to do something, Roddy and Andre would indeed be the guys i'd consider dropping, with Andre being the first consideration. I still have a day to mull it over...right now, Bowe, Hartline and Edelman are available...none of them really light my fire.

I'm actually leaning toward doing something that goes against my very grain...staying the course over making an impulsive move and going forward from there.

averagejoe, I think Opposite George would be proud...

...or WOULD he???

Opposite George is different for everyone. If it is not your nature to stand pat then you are "opposite George."

You mean Simpson isn't available?

Funny you should mention that...I dropped Simpson for Golden Tate as my one WR threat this week. Seems like a crapshoot either way to me. :noidea:

Chef, I guess it depends on your league settings? Is this the MBBRL? Cause only 4 teams make the playoffs. I'm the commish in another league where 7 teams (of 12) make the playoffs. I just posted to the other owners that last season the worst team to make the playoffs (7th seed) was 6-6-1. The year before, the 7th seed had a 6-7 record. So you never know.

Yeah, this is MBBRL. I'm gonna hafta think hard about this. 7 of 12? Does that make it more or less fun?

Well, the #1 seed gets a playoff bye. No one has complained yet. I think it inspires some hope for teams clinging to a playoff spot. And anything can happen in the playoffs. Two years ago the 7th seed won the Title.

Very true, but the Falcons aren't going to rush him back if they don't start winning. There is also the possibility of a fantasy playoff shutdown if he is still shy of 100%.

The thing with Brown is that Chef's WRs are a lot better and deeper than his RBs. In a vacuum, the correct decision would be to drop Brown, but we need to consider his roster here. It is also a lot easier to find a short term replacement at WR than it is at RB, so you can get away with being thin there.

Well, I made the move...dropped Andre for Hartline. Tough thing to do. On the one hand, don't know if or when Roddy/Jones are comin' back. On the other hand, depth at RB is iffy at best, but who knows what's gonna happen with Hillis/Jacobs/Wilson/Andre by week 10?

As for picking someone up, it came down to Bowe/Hartline/Edelman/Simpson.

In any event, I just couldn't lay down and take the zero.

Here is a strategy that never occurred to me until now...my opponent has all of his guys going in the early games except one. I've got three going Monday night and one Sunday night.

I'm down 23-5 at this point. I think I could have possibly waited to gauge the score and picked up a Kerley or Sidney Rice, depending on how things look...or even not made a move at all, if things fell my way.

Damn, this is a lot of work!

But I am learning...

Except,

Anybody who starts at 1 is locked into the line-up and cannot be dropped once the games start on most sites.

You would be forced to drop James Jones or somebody else who plays late.
