ill go tangent on the tangent

last weekend up in kelowna I was out for a late night stroll with the wife and we happened upon an outdoor concert featuring Naughty By Nature ... We kinda just plopped ourselves onto a park bench outside the fenced area and listened ... They got on stage at 9 and finished at 10 ... they "sang"/rapped other rappers songs ... they would scream "We say Tupac, you say ..." and start singing "California Love" and my wife and I would look at each other recalling our 90's rap knowledge and ask each other "this isnt their song, is it?"

they finished with Hip Hop Hooray ... and the hoardes of wasted Ed Hardy wearing, tatted up douchebags left the concert pleased as punch ... great fun to watch the couple of fights we saw and the public urination by 1 douchebagette

Im officially old!

Me too! (old, not having the #1 album of 2008)

Never a huge fan but I enjoyed some Beastie Boys as a teen, and do respect that they learned to play instruments after they were already successful. A few years later I liked Sabotage and picked up that album. I think I listened to it once.

I do think Kid Rock's summer song sounds more like the songs it sampled from than the Beastie songs I know, but I am admittedly not a Kid Rock fan.

I never much liked the Beastie Boys (or Kid Rock for that matter).

my only "cool story bro" for the Beastie Boys is that the poster they have on the wall in the video (red hand-face thing on green background - first at 2:15, shown a few times during the pie fight, then torn down at 3:06) is a Kenny Scharf. My wife is friends with him, and when our daughter was born, he sent a whole bunch of posters over to decorate her room - they are all colorful like that. So we have that same poster as in the video, except signed by the artist. so there.

When I read the thread title, I thought it would be about my girlfriends in the 80's.

From the comments section.

I was at the concert on Saturday night in Chicago. He is still a Detroit fan. He basically told the crowd that he was from Detroit and has enjoyed the rivalries with Chicago through the years (Bad Boys/Jordan's Bulls, Tigers/White Sox, Lions/Bears and Red Wings/Blackhawks). He noted that a good friend from Detroit has made a visit to Chicago, Stanley, and he expected Stanley back in Detroit real soon. He then invited the Blackhawk players (it was 3, I was too far from the stage to say who they were) and congratulated them and yes he hoisted the cup. Make no mistake, he represented the D very very well. Quite a few boos everytime he mentioned Detroit.

That explains why when I was at the beach the other day, it sounded like 8 million people were chanting "Detroit sucks" from across the lake...
