Props to Zito - but will it be enough?

Gotta give Zeets some props for not just crawling into a hole and collecting a monster paycheck. At least he seems to be trying. I know we all hope it pays off and he can become a legit starter.

Giants | More on Barry Zito

Mon, 20 Feb 2012 09:40:00 -0800

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito worked on bending his front leg in order to get lower to the ground and speed up the momentum on his pitches while in his delivery this offseason. "It's pretty subtle from a feel standpoint. As far as when it manifests in momentum, that's when it's a little more noticeable," Zito said. "It was something I was doing a little bit last year that you guys were aware of, just getting a little bit more momentum down the mound. That was something that I worked on all offseason."

Serious reaction? Turn to friend or family member and say, "That's all it took? What the fuck has he been doing for the better part of a decade? Don't answer that."

LOL. The sad part is that his new leg bend will not make any difference at all. Zito is what he is. He is 180 innings of 4.50 ERA and 1.30 WHIP baseball and a 12-12 record.

If he gives us that this season, I'll be happy. Low expectations.

Which would put him in the top 3 fifth starters in all of baseball...

But there's also the chance that the "Wade Phillips" version of Barry Zito returns. You know, the guy who looks like a deer in the headlights and really has no answer for what is coming at him on a daily basis. It pains me to recall this, but the 2008 version of Zito is the one I am referencing here.

If THAT Zito shows up, the Giants will be getting a 5.50 ERA 1.50 WHIP pitcher. I didn't want to think about it because the 4.50 ERA Zito is a composite of his SF years (for the most part) and that is what we have come to expect.

Let's just hope we get the good enough Zito.

Dude. Chill. He is bending his leg more. What else do you want from him? :)

Bending his leg is only part of the solution .... they now have to move the mound in about 30 feet 6 inches and raise it about 18 inches. That should give him the appearance of another 2-3 miles on his fast ball. Of course every other major league club would have to accept the condition that this new 'mound architecture' can and will only be used by Barry 'my mound' Zito.
