It will be hillarious to look back at everyone's opinions about this year's prospects. There are bound to be some duds.

As for Cam..... I always liked the kid (as you can see in my old posts). I still do. I think if he had ended up with a better group of coaches, you'd see his full potential.

As for Gino.... Happy to admit I was wrong about his presence in the running game. He struck me as somewhat one dimensional early on - Looked awesome pressing the pocket but perhaps too light to hold up against a powerful running team. Clearly there were some concerns from the pros (the guy did make it all the way to the fourth round). But he's a beast and I'm happy to be wrong.

To be fair, it was your own brother that was Cam's biggest critic.

Oh I am aware of that. I gave him shit for it then and don't think for a second I'll let him forget it as Cam keeps progressing.

I am still waiting for him to win one meaningful game....

He is 4-16 in the first 10 weeks of a season.

Have you even looked at his team? Horrible rushing game around him, 1 good WR, a bad defense. He can't win every game by himself.

Yeah he really regressed this year. Almost 4000 yards, only 12 INTs. 8.0 ypa. 27 total TD's, lead his team in rushing averaging 5.8 ypc. He didn't regress this year at all. If he had more than 1 option and his coaching staff wasn't a bunch of morons his numbers would be ridiculous.

Cam has far exceeded my expectations of him. He is a pretty decent QB actually, and my reasoning for him not being long for this league and struggling was based on past records of QB's similar to him that was more run than throw who didn't last long in this league. I thought Cam would be one of many QB's in this same mold. One year of major college football, a run first, pass second type of QB, a guy who cerebrally incapable of disecting plays in this dynamic defensive league. His interviews questioned his knowledge and he didn't test well. His Wonderlic was terrible.

He was a guy I thought had a ton of talent, but was not mentally strong enough to be a passing QB in the NFL. He proved me wrong, and several other analysts as well.

Dalton is a second round pick, Newton was the #1 overall pick. Dalton is pretty decent compared to how well normal second round or more QB's perform. Usually if the QB is not a first round pick, his likelihood of success is greatly diminished.

I can be perfectly happy admitting to be wrong, but I also feel the evidence at the time I had was sound to come to the conclusions I had before he was drafted. In this case I was the goat. Way it goes sometimes. Even the best guess wrong at times, which is why guys drafted 4th round like Geno Atkins go as late as he did, Brady 6th round, Davis 6th round or John Randall going undrafted. You just can't tell how much heart, determination and will to succeed that some guys have. They just do not have tests for that stuff. Newton has so far been a pleasant surprise and succeeded at a much greater rate than I ever thought he would. Good for him, and your prediction on him.

Care to dig up any old draft posts you made regarding prospect futures that you were wrong in, or am I safe to assume you have never misjudged a prospect? :)

PS...I am just messing with you. However, don't think I am nieve enough to know you cherry picked the threads to support your case at this time of year instead of just picking random posts for fun.

I think I summed it up best when I quipped in post #8 .....

"Cam is good. Dalton sucks. End of that discussion."

Succinct.

I didn't cherry pick, I just went to the last page of posts on here and picked out the funniest threads. Cam happens to be the funniest. I'm finding some more pretty good ones about Scott and Pearman.

Cam Newton's peak is a Mike Vick, which is at best a #10 QB in the league. At his peak, he'll be a good to very good (not great) regular season QB - i.e. his team will win many games against crappy defenses. In the playoffs, he may get to the 2nd round, but once he starts seeing real defenses, his game won't amount to much (much like Vick) and he'll become a liability.

That said, in all likelihood, he'll be a bust. Stick around for 2-3 years and then have a tough time trying to land somewhere.

Next season's draft, I won't be surprised if the Panthers are in a predicament trying to decide whether they draft Luck or trade back.

I was off about how long he'll be in the league for. Otherwise spot on. He'll be a good QB. That's about it. He'll never be great or in the upper echelon of QB's.

Oh, and the Mike Vick love in the 2nd page of the thread is hilarious.

Vick was the best QB in the league that year. He sucked last year. True story. And comparing him to Vick is moronic. They really don't play that much alike.
