I think much of this depends on whether or not Texas has someone in mind to replace him. If they already have someone in mind and think they can get him....why not fire Mack immediately after a loss??? That way the new guy can start getting his recruiting class ready now.

Not interested in Kelly ? Really ? What wall were you a fly on to have such privileged info ? Kelly is an excellent coach and UT would do well to get him. I believe Mack's contract is good until 2020 so I don't think it's in his best interest to resign. I have no idea if there is a buyout clause in the agreement, but it's going to be a costly proposition regardless when the time comes to send him down the highway.

Texas will not hire any coach like that. Texas will not take a chance on a guy that buys recruits.

Did you graduate from UT? I did, in 1985. Texas remembers the SMU Death Penalty and will not hire a tainted coach.

True, but if you're going after someone like maybe John Gruden who was a successful coach but is currently in the broadcasting booth....they would be available now. (And I'm not saying Gruden...just someone in that same situation.)

And they won't hire a new coach BEFORE they hire a new AD. So it really won't matter.

Mack is safe until January.
