I've long wished there was less specialization in the NFL's game and more need for players to be able to contribute on BOTH offense and defense.

Would a rule limiting substitutions to, say, 3 per down, improve the game or not?
I think it would.

No. Let the offense dictate substitution with their pace.

The league is trending towards more specialization, not less. "Player health" is at the heart of the matter. At least until they want to add 2 more games to the season.

I agree with this. We put Qbs on a pedestal for a reason

Didn't think my idea would get much support, but I can live with that.

Would appreciate some, of course, but want people to say what THEY believe, whatever that may be.

Player specialization for player health is like fixing a broken pipe with a paper towel.

Player injuries will go down because players will be playing less not because it is actually helping. Ending PEDs is how to make the game safer.

From what I understand, they don't test for HGH

Maybe the league is trending that way, but should it?

I don't think it should.

The refs calling "unnecessary roughness" or some such more often would do more for player health than increased specialization, wouldn't it?

Very true, but then in the future there will be other PEDs they do not test for. The only way I can think of to truly win the war on PEDs is to keep blood samples for a certain number of years post career and very stiff penalties for positive tests. Much stronger bans and possibly an escrow account that once the player is cleared after so many years they receive the money or forfeit certain amounts.

Technically penalizing something only helps if it deters future incidents, by the time the penalty is called the damage is done.

But more to your point is that I would love to see 2 way players!!! I would also love to see a lot less game time coaching, let the players play, lose the headsets.

Just leave the rules alone.

Anyone remember when a little imperfection was acceptable?
