I know and understand Late round and F/A qbs can and have been very successful in the NFL, The 3 that immediately come to mind would be Brady, Warner, and Romo. All have been very successful 2 of them are HOFers no doubt. Romo can't get it with out a Superbowl and a couple deep runs in the playoffs. My point is If you look at the NFL over the past 20 or 30 yrs you're going to find your franchise qb in the 1st and even sometimes 2nd round...generally the first though. before you go pooh pooh on that look it up before you respond. Again there are several shinning examples of successful late round qb's but ideally he needs to be a 1st rounder. Save the late round pick s for big guys rbs, project guys, etc. If you don't wanna spend that first, second and even third round pick on a qb then just wait until next year or take a chance on a F/A rookie signal caller. That's my opnion on the matter.

A.J. McCarron, QB, Alabama
Height: 6-4. Weight: 214.
Projected 40 Time: 4.79.
Projected Round (2014): 2-3.
12/21/13: McCarron's performances versus Virginia Tech and Ole Miss were underwhelming. He hasn't been able to answer some of the questions about his passing ability. McCarron hasn't illustrated a stronger arm than in 2012, and he has thrown some passes off his back foot when he didn't need to. The senior also has missed on throws down field to open receivers.

On the flip side, McCarron played extremely well against Texas A&M to win a shootout at Kyle Field. In 2013, he has completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,676 yards with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions. McCarron looks more like a solid No. 2 rather than a starter in the NFL.

Arm strength is an issue I get that. Damn is that something that can be fixed in a NFL weight training program? Im sure not a coach just asking? It would seem that could be addressed

Usually if you don't see progression from Jr to Sr year ... They are pretty much maxed out arm strength wise. Unless it's a matter of mechanics.

I think it is what it is with him. At best a career back up that can run a dink and dunk offense.

Aaron Rodgers has increased his arm strength tremendously since he was drafted by the Packers.

I think it has a lot to do with mechanics.

I think you made some valid points, and while I suspect the Cowboys will probably lean towards your approach, I think they should consider a QB in the 4th or 5th, depending on who is there.

I suspect most of us agree that a QB in the 1st couple of rounds this year is a no-go. If nothing else, you almost have to assume Romo is around for at least 3 more seasons. In addition to that, they obvious have too many needs to use a 1st or 2nd round pick on a QB project.

In the later rounds however, I don't see it as a total misfire to bring in a young QB to develop. Maybe his ceiling ends up being a quality backup. Maybe you luck out and get something more. If you whiff, at least you didn't pass on a starter at another position, which is what you should be getting in rounds 1 and 2.

Finally, lets be honest about the Cowboys drafting a QB in round 1 or 2. If they do that, the blood will be in the water. Voices will be screaming to bench Romo for the high draft pick the second something doesn't go well. There will be no grooming in that situation. It will be a circus, although that seems to be the norm thanks to Jerry.
