It seems that the Giants are evaluating whether some coaches may return next year. @Stokes1931 , you'll be happy to know that Muelens is being closely looked at for whether he should return or not - Giants' GM Bobby Evans talks potential changes
Even if Bam Bam is the greatest hitting coach in the history of hitting coaches, voices need to change from time to time. Bam Bam has been here since what, ‘09?

I actually think Gardy needs to be looked at. How often have guys come in from the bully and walked their first batter? If any coach needs to be sacked that, wouldn’t it be the bullpen coach?

Don’t you agree, @LHG ?

It still has me somewhat concerned that Evans feels he can resolve last years 98 losses by strengthening our pitching and defense. While I understand the approach I still that that the game has evolved and it is now 'power' oriented. I didn't look at all of the playoff teams but I do know that the Cubs had 6 players with 20+ home runs. Not sure we had one. Maybe Posey?

Belt was on pace for 20 before going down with a concussion. Posey only hit 12, same as Denard Span.

Actually, it was 45 home runs (Belt - 18, Crawford - 14, Pence - 13). Hey, at least there were 6 guys in double digits (with Hundley one short of making it 7). :L

Phil Nevin's name came up as a possible candidate for the Tigers.

And, as always, Ron Wotus should be on a watch list for managerial positions. As of now, he is Bochy's predecessor, which could be as soon as 2019. He's a defensive wizard, though in the small sample sizes of his managing games, there isn't enough there to say whether it's a good or bad thing he's the predecessor.

Ron Wotus. I remember getting a minor league card pack, sometime in 1990 I think, and finding a Ron Wotus card when he was with Phoenix, probably wrapping up his playing career at that time.
Okay, back on topic, as you said. The article does mention that Nevin is a candidate for the Tigers' spot. Both will probably be in the running for the inevitable manager positions that open up this offseason. There has to be at least three more coming open.
Did you know that Wotus and Dave Righetti are the two coaches with the longest tenure with their current team, with Righetti tied for 2nd with Alfredo Griffin of the Angels? Does that make them untouchable or most likely to be re-evaluated?
And did you mean Wotus as predecessor or as successor to Bochy?

Doh! Successor. Alou already has that title.

I wasn't that impressed with Nevin this year and wouldn't be terribly sad to see him go.

I get the feeling that Wotus wants a lead job. The Giants have been lucky, IMO, to keep him around for so long. He will stay on his terms, which for now he seems to be pretty picky about his job search and/or really wants the Giants' lead job. Might not keep waiting around though.

Raggs is probably the same way. He stuck through 3 managerial changes now, and it seems like there's no indication he's looking for a managerial role. I wonder if he sticks around for a 4th manager though. If it's Wotus, I'd say probably. If it's someone from the outside, I'll bet he moves on (and I'd expect wholesale changes on the staff at that point).

I can’t imagine Rags is in any danger. Neither is Wotus.

I think Nevis is gone (he will get a manager position), which is OK since he was a piss poor 3B coach.

I think Bam Bam will either be let go or get reassigned. No matter the tools, when you build a lemon like the 2017 Giants offense, you gotta pay the piper.

Aguacil may stick around. He has been with the org for a while. Maybe he moves to 3rd?

Eli definitely sticks around. He earned his spot when he lost his shit in the dugout.

The hitting has been anemic since the ASB 2016, a season and a half. No SSS. Some injuries, yes. But when guys slump, it is the hitting coach's job to work them out of it. Bam Bam has either not done that, or has been tuned out.

"Everyone" seems to think Posey's season was very good, hitting .300+

He had a decent season, but it was sub-par for him. Posey must be a run producer on this team, and in this he failed. He only drove in 67 runs, in spite of hitting .320 and an OBP of .400.

Runs + RBI
2010 - 125
2011 - the less said the better
2012 - 181
2013 - 133
2014 - 161
2015 - 169
2016 - 162
2017 - 123 (worse than his rookie year, and he had 90 more AB this season)

Posey is a #3 hitter, he is NOT a cleanup hitter. His highs for HR's were 24 (2012) and 22 (2014). Those appear to be aberrations. His other HR totals are 18, 15, 19, 14, 12 which averages out to 15.6. He's a 15 homer guy, no more, really.

The whole team was terrible at scoring runs. Next year must be better. More speed. More power. Better situational hitting. And Posey needs to lead the way there, he's the captain.

Now, it could be argued that Posey needs more rest, and that may be true. He plays a demanding position at C, and his excellence as a catcher cannot be dismissed. Perhaps Posey had some nagging injury this season that he played through. In any case, I hope he is back to being a 160-170 run producing hitter next season.

He is for sure not a cleanup hitter. If it wasn't for Panik he would even be an interesting hitter at #2. But they need a legit cleanup hitter for sure, no question. They simply don't have one yet.

a little surprised bochy is staying. didn't seem to have much fun this year and contending in '18 will be a stretch. given 2 heart episodes i'd remove the stress. he has nothing more to prove

And he is going to have another procedure done on his heart. But what he's been on record to say is that he doesn't want to end it like this. He wants to come back for 2018 to do better and plans to fulfill his 2019 season as well. I really doubt he'll stick around after that year though.

Just watching Bochy walk to the mound is painful. Dude is not healthy. I fully expect him to be in a wheelchair within 10 years.

yikes... didn't know about another procedure. hopefully he be able to go out on. higher note, but barring miracles the giants won't be competive in '18 and i'm doubtful about any significant change in '19
