now, i know the two free swingers at 5,6 could be a problem, but hear me out.

Pablo doesnt take enough pitches. he'll swing at a first pitch that bounces on the plate and ground out to 1st. Scutaro has good discipline, has been getting lots of rbis, and has been clutch. Riot will make contact, go to right, and advance the runners. If Pagan walks/singles, those are two guys who will move him over for Buster.

The Riot is no riot at the plate - .623 OPS and equally bad against both LHP and RHP, so he is not a good platoon candidate.

Maybe in an emergency, but not as a solution.

As a LF, there isn't anything significant that Theriot does better than Blanco, except strike out about half as much. That doesn't outweigh Blanco's D, or better pop.

I'd rather they try Arias (1.130 OPS in Aug) in LF than Theriot, at least against LHP (.845 OPS all year). If anyone right now, he is the guy they need to wedge into the lineup, not Theriot.

Scutaro has played a smattering of OF in his career.

Whiteside's already here, been for the road trip. And I just don't see a solution internally at all; Belt, Theriot, Scutaro and Arias have't spent enough time in the OF to warrant any hope in that. Theriot was even quoted: "I'm feeling good out here, except on fly-balls". The offensive production will be lost in the loss defense of Blanco/Peguero.

It's going to come from outside, or they are sticking with Blanco/Peggs

It seems like the brass have decided they don't like using Belt in left. The idea being that if we're truly going to stick with who we are, which is a pitching team, you have to have good defense to make the pitching really work. If your lineup is a little less solid so be it.

Also, it's not just a downgrade having a below average left fielder, Belt at first makes the other infielders better. He's dug out so many of Panda's offline throws and turned errors or late throws into outs.

I really wish we could just get a freaking LF off waivers, doesn't have to be good just play ok defense and hit appreciably better than Blanco. Is that so hard to find?
