I don't know why either. Just hated him from the moment he came up with Cleveland.
I always liked him (then again the teams he were on were so awful that he was one of the few guys that you could like). He seemed pretty mild mannered but he could beat the shit out of a water cooler after a strikeout

I remember when he was with the Nationals, him going after a pitcher and first baseman that were twice his size. That I suppose was the former Hockey player in him.

The F bombs he dropped on live TV were pretty good too.
I think this is my favorite memory of him. Also one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Was quite a character.
I met him at a party in 1979, and he was opening beer bottles with his teeth.
He was out of MLB by around 1982.

I think he could also open them with his eye socket...yeah, Joe developed a bad back early on and that killed his career. Joe grew up dirt poor and said he earned money by participating in no holds barred fights in boxcars that the migrant field workers would bet on, so he probably brought some poorly healed injuries with him when he made the majors.
