Where I am at today I can't see the game but it is nice to see Tabata with 2 hits. They desperately need some offense. Looks like again Bedard is pitching a great game with no support.

Is it just me, or does Pedro's defense look much improved?

Pedro overall has been looking more and more like a Major League ball player as this year has gone on. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get hot soon.

But yes, with the glove he's been steady so far this year. Doesn't he only have the one error this year? And if he does, Jones probably should have had that pick anyway.

Man..... I hate to post this following a TWO-HIT GAME by Pedro Alvarez..... but it seems worthy of note:

Due to my location, I see few games either live or on TV. So..... most of my info comes from MLB.com's Gameday. I just reviewed both their video clips and their pitch-by-pitch coverage of last night's 2-0 win.

I was dismayed to discover that BOTH of Pedro's hits came on change-ups. Since his previous two hits (both home runs) also came on change-ups, we're faced with the rather startling conclusion that Alvarez remains HITLESS on both breaking balls and fastballs. In my opinion, that seems cause for serious concern.

I really don't think Pedro's problems are something that can be analyzed in the sense that "He can't hit a fastball" or "He can't hit a slider," he was such a mess whatever pitch was thrown he couldn't hit it.

But point taken.

That works!

I'm loving the McGehee trade right about now.

Oh, and by scoring that run, we actually increased Lohse's ERA.

Would be nice to get some luck on balls in play at some point this year.

Yeah, a couple inches left or right and that's a single. You know it was hit pretty well because if it wasn't there's no way they double off Tabata.

Need a comeback to make up for some of that debacle that was the Pens game this afternoon.

Cutch leads off the bottom of the ninth, so there's at least some hope.

Of course, the Cardinals get production out of Lance Berkman's backup when he's hurt. And have, what, three guys with sub-1 ERAs. I don't know how that team does it, but they just get contributions from whoever they plug into the lineup.

If you uprooted the Pirates team and moved them to St. Louis, they'd probably make the playoffs. :burt:
