Interesting they are sitting Hamilton and starting Hawpe.

But after hearing Hamilton was dropped to 7th in the order that might be the most expensive 7th hitter in all of baseball ever.

I think Weaver's going to be hard to get used to early on, but his stuff isn't all that good, and he hasn't been pitching all that well this year, so we should get to him in the third and fourth, I think.

Maybe we'll jump on him earlier than I thought.

Jordy with the two-run shot.

Looks like Cole's working in a changeup, setting guys up, and he's gotten a couple whiffs early. And he's touching 100, which doesn't hurt.

A couple more inches to the left there would have been good. Man, so close.

Incorporating his slider and changeup a little more tonight it seems, and it's resulting in some strikeouts. A couple balls have been hit pretty well off him, but his stuff is good enough to keep them from truly centering him up.

He's pitching very well tonight, and our offense took advantage of a weak pitcher. Good game so far.

Pujols got a hold of that one, and then Cole walks Trumbo. Hopefully he gets it together quickly. I'd like to see him get through at least 7.

Cole still needs to learn a lot about pitching, I think. A solid start tonight, but we really need him to start truly dominating all the way through his starts. But he's improving, and that's something.

Cole just cant be sent down now...

Our pitching is so freaking good :D

I guess Morton and Gomez to the BP, McDonald dfa.

What a massive talent influx this year, Mercer, Marte, Locke and Cole, thats a franchise direction changer, and we have so much more in the pipeline.

Raise it! Grilli looked to have recovered nicely from his blown save.

Holy crap Darkstone - he just handled a pretty powerful Angels lineup. I don't know how much more you could realistically expect of him.

hey darkstone, sounds like you were watching.
was cole throwing inside with his heat yet? when he does, that is when he will take it up a notch as he didnt in the first 2 starts.
he also needs to move the heater up in the zone as well as tight.
good to hear he had a better mix of pitches.

also,
wilson, mazzaro, gomez,
finding melancon
even cumpton when we needed a couple key starts was way better than anticipated by the 4th guy in your AAA rotation!
no bringing up welker and sanchez as well.

if mercer works out, that is a big hole we had and we didnt have to spend anything to get him. i was thinking we send 3 propects to get a MLB SS, but now we can stockpile and get the catcher, 1B, RF or 2B we need.
lets hope sanchez can be to C what mercer is surprising us with at SS.

how does having too many good players affect our 40 man roster and the rule 5 draft. do we need to trim and send 3 to get 1 or we will lose some without any return? i am not well versed in those admin aspects.

Right now, while he's learning, not much. But there is a persistent issue with him that guys hit him really hard the third time around, and it happened again last night. His stuff can carry him to and sometimes through the 6th, but he'll have to learn how to adjust his strategy within a game if he wants to be a true ace.

I'm not dissatisfied, but I do see now why he started the season in AAA from a developmental standpoint.

He worked inside a little more last night (got Pujols swinging by working him inside, for example), but mostly he lives knee-to-thigh-high in the middle of the plate, which is why, with his stuff, he's getting all those ground balls early but being hit hard later in the game.
