Alright, Grilli, shut this one down. It's not going to be easy with 2, 3, 4 coming up.

There's number three! Fielder goes down on strikes.

Raise the Jolly Roger, and that's another winning road trip.

Had the Pirates lost, you could have said the same of us. There were opportunities for each team to score, they just didn't.

In my mind, this was the best win of this season, to date!

For the Pirates, to shut out THAT LINEUP for 11 straight innings, with essentially our 5th starter & our bullpen, was absolutely amazing!

Gomez, was amazing! Grilli, striking out the side in the 11th, when the side just happend to be, Hunter, Miggy, ( Triple Crown Winner ) & Prince, on the road, to seal the game!

Mind Blowing!

This could be a Very Special Yr! I've said it before, The Bucs can play!

Best win of the season, to date!

Burgh

Amazing how Sharp Grilli was... I wonder if it had anything to do with getting a day of rest on Monday?.. Looking back he had pitched only one inning in 4 days! He pitched Thursday and then got Friday and Saturday off... A effective inning on Sunday and then Monday off.

I hope that the pitching coach and the manager are paying attention to this and find ways to give Grilli as many days off as possible as the season wears on.

we are winning games and playing good baseball, so we dont want to take that for granted.
but most of our wins are games that are close all the way, or small comeback types.
either way, our high leverage guys in the BP are in play.

we need some of those get on top early games, 5-1 after 3 so the starters can relax, they can go longer, dont need to PH for the starter in the 6th, and use the low end guys in the BP to get some work, improve, get experience, and rest the big 3 of wilson, melancon, grilli.

i think when hughes comes back, he will be stronger and be even better than the hughes last year. that will give us 4 high leverage guys.
mazzaro and morris will cont to improve as 5 and 6. then it is watson, zagurski, or reid, or black as the #7. get rid of contreras and groom one of the younger guys.

also, we got an XBH and they didnt. we have the longest XBH streak in the league this year. detroit was 2nd.
that is amazing given the feast(relatively speaking) and famine nature of our lineup.

Well the run differential is positive for the team.. and it keeps slowly going up...So while this is not the Reds or the Cardinals offense... It is nowhere near the famine of early 2012 when the Pirates were dead last by a decent margin.

There is some feast and famine.. but because we have Marte producing steadily, and because we have Martin Sanchez and Snider chipping in...There is enough bats to at least get some timely hitting where a different guy can contribute every night.

A hot streak from McCutchen and this offense is going to absolutely roll!

It's posting stats like that that jinxes the whole thing. :)

I just had to post that to nix the jinx.

...and this to nix the jinx of me nixing the jinx.

Hopefully the jinx is now confused enough that it doesn't know what to jinx.

hopefully walker isnt spending the morning on the site.
hopefully he isnt a follower of that twit that tweeted the jinx.

my daughter says she is praying for the pirates this year and has a good feeling so hopefully that counteracts the jinx.

really want burnett to get in the win column and get some positive mo going to catch up with locke, gomer, and liriano.

wandy has the most wins and by far the highest era.

burnett needs to stop walking people to help his teammates stay alive in the field and hopefully alive at the plate. my theory. too many strikeouts and walks, no fielder activity, players get listless and lazy, not alert and ready to pounce.

He can go ahead and keep striking guys out. Those are exciting for the fielders even though they don't have to do anything. Walks are boring and get you down, because now there's a fellow on base after you didn't do anything.

Unless I'm mistaken, Burnett doesn't have many wins because the offense has been horrid when he pitches. Are you saying the listless and laziness is making them worse hitters?

i think it is a contributor.
6 out of the last 10 he walked 3 or 4 guys. max was 7 IP.
he goes deep into the count on many people.
with the few hits, you would think he could go 8 or nine innings.
the deep counts loll the players to sleep and they arent as alert or aggressive. more reactive.

not saying this is the whole reason for no run support, as gomez was the opposite except a couple batters for 7 innings last nite and we scored zero for him although we wasnt walking or striking out anyone. but we were making all the plays, even the tough ones. not sure if it was porcello dominating us or .......

as a pitcher and catcher, i saw first hand what happened in the field and at bat when a burnett kind of ptcher is throwing. not his fault people miss so many of his pitches putting them deeper in the count.
nobody misses gomez, so the first one they swing at, they put in play and end the atbat most of the time at that point.

burnett, 2 lead off walks through 5 innings.
3 walks total.
81 pitches already.
ace should be better.
