Luzinski broke in at 19 with the Phillies and was very good from the start. Hit .300, then .281, 18 homers in his first full season. I remember how bad some of these players were at the time. There was much excitement over Don Money at third but when he didn't blossom they traded him to Milwaukee where he had a decent career. Similar for Larry Hisle and John Briggs. Sounds like how Asche's career might go. Over all a fairly young roster except for old man Tony Taylor.

This was the year before the Phillies traded for Steve Carlton. Rick Wise was sent to the Cards in the exchange. What a heist!

Great memories! The pitching was decent that year but the hitting was not there.

Oscar Gamble went on to have a very solid career as a left handed platoon guy on a bunch of other teams. I guess they would have had to trade him a couple years later anyway when they got Maddox though. The outfield wasn't big enough for Both of their Afros.

I agree WestCoast. Carlton was the elite and he maintained that status for quite a long time.
