The Phils hire Almarez as the new amateur scouting director to replace Wolever. Almarez has been with the braves as an international director. The most interesting thing about him is his philosophy. He does not believe in holding back players. This is the opposite of Amaro. Seems as though Amaro may have had less to say about this hiring. This is a step in the right direction and indicates that other management and owners are trying to change the way things have been run. As we know Amaro believes in spending money to hire blockers to young talent. Now one can only hope that Amaro will get his walking papers soon. We need more fresh blood in my opinion.

What boggles the mind is, if the ownership is slowly getting it that Amaro is a screwing things up as evidence by this hiring, then why do they keep braindead around? It makes little sense to me other than the notion the FO needs some idiot to take the heat for them until they figure things out which in and of itself makes little sense!

This change sure as hell can't hurt. The Phils need some exciting changes over the winter.

Agreed. Even a moron could find a way to improve this team. However Amaro has not risen to that level yet.

Considering the braves have had one of the best farm systems in mlb over the last decade or two it's def a wise to decision to go after one of their guys...
