just another guy who doesn't realize how good AJ Green is.

what happens when there is no AJ Green, that's when you evaluate Dalton.

That article doesn't do a lot to change my mind about some of Dalton's shortcomings.

But it does make me re-think some of Jay's decisions. There's some strong data there to indicate that our offensive coaches were making very poor personnel decisions on Sunday -- In particular the continued reliance on Jermaine Gresham and BJGE.

And this is what I got out of it.

Dalton is what he is, and that's no surprise to most of us. He's good enough, but he's not a QB that is going to carry the offense for a season like a Manning or Brees, but he can be good enough for stretches IF, and this was a big IF this past year, the offense is called correctly.

I've said this all year...Dalton can't be in the top 10 of passing attempts. The run has to be used more, and focused on more through the year in practice, meetings, and ultimately in games.

I suppose we'll see.

We'll basically have the same offense this year that we had last year, only now with another year of experience for the young dudes. If the offense struggles, it would be a clear sign that Jay was worth the press and worth his new position.

"Dalton is a quality decision-maker"

He doesn't even entertain the idea that it just might be Gruden that made Dalton that "quality" decision maker with Gruden's system and playbook. The system was designed for Dalton to be able to make one read and get the ball out. Of course Gruden has his many other faults as the writer pointed out, but doesn't give him enough credit where he deserves.

"Andy Dalton is an elite deep passer"

Yeah, he's so elite that often times his WIDE open receivers down the field have to come back for the ball and/or make a tremendous catch because the ball was under thrown. The numbers do lie.

But I agree, if everything else on offense is perfect, Andy Dalton can be successful.

Agreed.

The biggest issue Jay had, and he said this himself, he often over-thought things. Things would be going so well, he would change it up because he thought "no way will this keep working, I have to keep changing things up". In effect, despite obvious signs of certain plays/formations getting solid results, he would try to keep switching things up to keep the defenses guessing, and ultimately at times, would blow momentum up with some odd calls at odd times.

There are many around the league who thing Jay was a so-so O-Cord, but has a better makeup to be a HC.

PFF numbers overall have shown consistent improvement over Dalton's first three years. They have also been consistently poor vs good defenses and beyond horrible in three playoff games. While the o/c's use of personnel can be called into question, especially with the underuse of Eifert, Jones, and Bernard, I'm still not sold that Andy can lead us anywhere but into first round playoff losses. I'm open-minded though. All you gotta do is show me, Andy..........
