Dallas is playing with fire, sure, but was Romo going anywhere in the next 2-3 years (barring major injury)? Signing Hardy is a little bit of a desperation move made out of impatience, but Jerry desperately wants to win another before he goes. I get it. Tomorrow isn't promised for a guy Jerry's age, especially when you drink the way he does.
I was against signing Hardy before it happened, but now that he has been signed I am excited to see how this defense looks when he takes the field. The move really afforded Dallas flexibility in the upcoming draft, too. The Romo restructure was necessary to make this possible.
Hardy... they say many teams wouldn't sign him under any circumstance and that's true, however many team would. NOW, is that 50% of the teams in the league? 30%? 70%? Who knows. Not much of a point to me.
I'm not sure Dallas was bidding against themselves as much as they were aggressive outta the gate.
Romo restructure....I don't know a Dallas fan that was jumping up and down about the latest restructure. Problem became Dallas was 12-4 last year and decided to roll the dice on Hardy & McClain and get over the top. The game is played for championships and Jerry was all-in the night he signed Romo two seasons back and 12-4 put him on the edge of his seat. He's not alone. The crap shoot becomes career ending play cause Jerry was down with Romo another three years anyways. Blame 12-4 last year.
I honestly think people are becoming scared. Maybe I'm wrong. I've seen NE sign these guys with track records too many times- whether it be Moss, Talib , Blount etc. They barely get any criticism. That's OK because it worked out for them. I honestly waited for the MCClain thing to blow all last yr. Whether we draft Peters or sign Peterson, I don't care. I want to win. There are guys on every team that has made mistakes. If the Colts or Chiefs sign Hardy this wouldn't even be a story.
