Glad to hear it. It would be asinine to fire a coach after two bloody years.

Agree that he should come back. This team isn't good, hard to blame the head coach when he's stuck with Josh LeRebeus.

Hard to believe that pretty much anyone would have an issue with this at the current time (unless the media or some random people are just trying to stir things up).

Oh there will be plenty. Kind of goes with the territory when you are losing.

Well - they should give it rest especially since it is a given that he will be back. This team is in rebuilding mode. Anyone who was expecting 10+ wins & a playoff appearance coming into this season is nuts. This team is probably where it should be now & this season is basically an evaluation year for a lot of these guys. I expect the final product in a few years to be dramatically different than what we see now.

Trust me I complain about Gruden as much or more than most especially on game day. However - I think that the current results would likely be the same with most of the other head coaches in the NFL.

While I agree that Gruden deserves at least another year before we can truly evaluate him, there are some troubling trends. A HC has many responsibilities, and one is motivating his team to rise to the occasion. This team quit on Sunday and, IMO, that is a direct reflection of the HC. I have no doubt that the vast majority of the players like Jay. But they have yet to prove they will fight for him, at least consistently. Until this changes, this team will not be a winner. At this level, the disparity in talent is not that great. The difference usually comes down to who wants it more. Jay may need to focus less on being liked and a bit more on being respected, and maybe even feared a bit.

Great point socal and jy. Norv was liked but not feared. Eventually that began to show. It's Thanksgiving though and usually around this time of year we are religiously analyzing mock drafts. There needs to be a balance of liability, fear, and competence. Gibbs had all three. Hard to find in one guy.

It's funny you mention Norv because that is exactly who Jay reminds me of. Very similar coaching style.

Norv was always searching for the next triplets. I dont think thats Jays motivation. And dont get it wrong, I actually like Jay. But I think some times he thinks too much like a QB. When a pass play goes wrong and they show his face, you can almost see in his eyes he is thinking "Damn it, I would have done this in that situation." It also burns us a little too often when he gets into the mind set of, if the running game is not crushing it after ten attempts, forget about it.

All in all IM glad his job is safe, I hope and expect Kirk to do enough to solidify the need to bring him back next season. But what would do wonders for this team is for Jay to have a serious intervention moment with Gibbs, Jon Gruden, and Brian Billick. If he could learn that a ground game needs to last for the entire game, I think he would round into a solid coach.

OK - I have a question for you guys since you have somewhat touched on this subject in your replies. The biggest issue for this team on offense recently is a lack of a running game. Do you believe that this is more due to lack of talent or coaching or that both are equally to blame?

Pretty much every team needs some semblance of a running game. Even Brady & Rodgers rely on this to help get the passing game in gear. Thoughts.

My take is, this is coaching. Or more to the point, its the coach having no faith in the run game and a lack of patience with it. Gruden has started to establish a trend. If the ground game is working early, he will stick with it. If we dont break off a few decent runs in the first 10 or so carries, he will ditch it like a bad habit. If you look at most of the games we have lost, we were still within reach when he abandons the ground game completely. Some times you just got to put the big bodies on the line and pound the damn thing.

No problem with Gruden. He has sat players that weren't performing. That is what players understand. SM will do the same. Guys have to know if they don't play hard they can and will be replaced. Now that is motivation. Rob Ryan just said last Sunday that the Redskins were the most physical team they had gone against.

I'd have to say talent. Long, Ribeye have no business being on the field. Moses has been better in pass pro but often times they don't even run to his side. That's says a lot imo. Scherff has been up and down. This team needs another guard, whether that is Lauvao coming back or bringing in a guy like Boone from SF or Brooks from Houston. They could also use Lichtensteiger back or draft a center in the 2nd. Also, Reed for all his ability is still a liability in the run game. Missing Paul and to a smaller extent Paulson there as well.
