OU president David Boren: Sooners' conference affiliation will be decided soon

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma president David Boren said Friday he expects the Sooners' conference affiliation to be decided soon.

“I don't know how long before clarity comes to us,” Boren said. “It might be a matter of 72 hours. It might be a matter of two weeks. I don't think it will be longer.”

Boren said OU is heavily involved in discussions about the future of the Big 12. The Sooners are believed to be deciding wether to salvage the Big 12 or seek membership in another conference, probably the Pac-12.

“It's too early to know what the outcome will be,” Boren said. “We're trying to evaluate the best long term interest for the University of Oklahoma.

“We want stability in our conference relationship. We want partners that are outstanding both academically and athletically.”

Personally I hope OU goes to the SEC. If not then the Pac 12. The last thing I want is for us to stay in the Big 12.

Boren seldom speaks, he works and negotiates behind the scenes. He served as chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, the longest-serving chairman of that committee ever. When he does speak the party is over - His comments about a stable and academic conference for OU's future means we're going to the Pac.

It is pretty different than the "we're going to do everything we can to save the Big 12" and "We are totally committed to the Big 12". That has been the party line for most of the schools through this whole process.

Ours will be a regional thing as well, hence the reason why the Pac 12 has open arms for UT right now. Plus, UT has received a $300M check already. OU might get a buck twenty five for theirs........
