Top 3 centers currently out:

Penguins center Mark Letestu hobbled off the ice during the team's morning skate at Madison Square Garden because of an apparent knee inury that could be significant. He will not play tonight against the New York Rangers.

Letestu left the locker room on crutches. Coach Dan Bylsma said he will be evaluated when the team returns to Pittsburgh.

Bylsma did not know now the injury happened because it did not occur during a drill. He speculated that Letestu might have hit a rut in the ice.

Letestu had been filling in for Sidney Crosby on a line between Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis. That center position tonight will be filled by Dustin Jeffrey, who had previously been summoned from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as insurance because Crosby (concussion) and Evgeni Malkin (sinus infection) are out.

*sigh* Ray was talking about this on NHL Live earlier and he was clearly in one of the moods where he just laughed because it was getting ridiculous.

Rut-Roh! Good thing he wasn't hurt during a drill. His whole leg could of fallen off!

They should definitely move Staal up to the top line, now. Until Geno is back, I don't see how they don't promote Jordan up to the top line with the best wingers on the team. He has the ability to be a 1st line center.

For me, and I know this sounds selfish and bandwagon-ish, I'm not as worried about W's because our team D and the goalies can hold in at least for a little while yet, but the games aren't nearly as fun anymore. A few of these games have felt like a chore to watch...I just can't wait until Sid comes back. He just holds the offense together.

Sure the games are less explosive, but there is the us-against-the-world mentality that is fun to watch.

Better now than later. get some young kids valuable experience. Coast a bit. See what you get out of Staal under adversity. Maybe make some of your prospects more marketable for a trade deadline pick up. No worries yet. It is Super Bowl Week, Pittsburgh! Enjoy!

Also, Pix, I know I had mentioned about Jason Worilds earlier, and figured you may like this:

American Chronicle | Worilds living his childhood fantasy with Steelers Super Bowl appearance

"Yeah, the extra checks are nice," said Worilds, snickering. "Times have changed a bit for me. Life is good right now for me and my family. Put it this way, I definitely don't have to wait for my [tax] refund check to come in anymore!

"I kinda took care of my family [after signing a four-year contract in July]. I bought my mother [Sandra] a Cadillac CTS, so that's real cool."

What kind of car did he buy for himself?

"Oh, no, I've still got my 2004 [Toyota] Camry," he said, laughing. "That's my baby. My mother bought me that car. I can't get rid of that car."

good article, thxs for posting that. I have a good feeling that Worilds is going to continue the great track record of outstanding OLB's for the Steeler D.

I have a great feeling about Worilds. Any young guy learning under some great LBs and Dick LeBeau is a recipe for success. Worilds could be an absolute steal.

Reminds me of the Flyers last year. Maybe you'll drop out of playoff contention? :D

(Assuming the Pens are playoff bound)

This is a blessing in disguise... like some folks have said, it gives younger guys valuable TOI (top lines and PP). It will help if injuries occur in playoffs and should provide more info for the off-season decisions.

As long as the injury to Letestu is not serious... for his sake... not just for the pens.
