Illinois being -1 at a lot of places was one of the truly bizarre spreads in football history. Penn State's outplayed everybody this year, while Illinois got clobbered by Louisiana Tech.
They're 2-2 with losses to Ohio and Virginia.
How have they outplayed everyone?
Did you see the games? They seriously dominated both. Against Virginia, their kicker missed half a dozen kicks and they still had to choke it away at the end to lose. Against Ohio, they were about to close the door when two guys went for an easy pick, and it deflected to an Ohio receiver. Both games were officially losses, but they clearly looked like the better team both games.

Actually, we couldn't stop Ohio in the 2nd half (the bad break with the tip didn't help), but yes we should have gotten the W against UVA.
