Well I never wanted Matt Cooke to win a Stanley Cup, but Mick told me you can't always get what you want.

I don't understand the hate for PK. For the next two weeks, he's the antichrist, that goes without saying.

But are you telling me if the Pens weren't in it you'd be rooting against Nashville? I would be rooting for them hard core.
It would depend on who Nashville was playing. If it was Ottawa, then yes, I want Ottawa...if it was the Caps, then yes, I want Nashville. There are tiers to my team/player hatred.

as you are about to win your franchises 5th Stanley Cup... Does the excitement still resonate in you or is it becoming just expected and that feeling of "oh, yes another please?"

2009 was the most exciting one for me. I wasn't a hockey fan when they won their first two. My family had just moved from Toronto to Montreal and I was all in on Joe Carter and the Blue Jays. My dad though was a big Leafs fan, and I have pretty vivid memories of the '93 loss to the Kings, and then the craze that overtook the city of Montreal (like, riot level craze) on their cup run. I think, all that going on, captured my interest in the NHL. Don't know why I became a Penguins fan, but probably because I didn't feel like a true Montrealer at the time, but had the good sense not to adopt my father's team. (Childhood intuition.)

Anyway, I was a pretty hardcore fan from then on out, catching as many games on TV on radio as I could. I remember the excitement of 08, but thinking it would take a bit to get back there, but then they just went on that brilliant run in the latter half of 09 season and never looked back. That playoff run, as a fan, doesn't get much better. Beat two all time rivals in the first two rounds, beat a team of legends in the final, come back from 2-0 down, Crosby and Malkin with all time performances, just perfect.

Last year was a completely different experience. From Washington on, i never had a doubt. Felt like a team that had finally matured and found its groove. While 09 was my first cup as a fan, 16 felt more like I was watching Crosby and Malkin cement their legacies.

This year is just gravy. Wasn't expecting to get this far, and obviously you want to win when you're so close, but honestly, it doesn't have the same impact. We're more in "legacy" territory than pure emotional roller coaster.

Sorry if that sounds arrogant or something, but I'm sure Blackhawk fans felt the same two years ago. Just being honest.

I would ask you about the ___(insert any DC team here)____

fify ;)

Hey, the Terps won the National Championship in lacrosse!

In true DC fashion, they had lost in the championship 9 straight times. Nine times - a 1 in 468,512 chance of that happening.

Two games later, I feel like this was a really sneaky jinx thread and wish I never responded!

I had that thought in my head when I posted this. I really believed it was over the way they got to Rinne. It's. A fascinating turn

Delayed reply:

The biggest reason the excitement would be the same, and the disappointment would be heavy, is because I'm keenly aware that the future is likely going to be rough for a bit. Sid and Geno aren't old of course, but they're both in their 30s (come August). That's in my mind, so I'm not taking one moment for granted. As I mentioned in the SCF thread, James Neal's existence fuels the fire too.

I dunno, maybe it's just the time since it happened, but I don't recall loathing him as much as I do Neal. Neal was a turd when he was here, lost games for the team while being a turd, then after this trade he's trying to pull sympathy. "I'm just glad I'm somewhere that wants me." Get over yourself Jimmy...the team and fans gave you plenty of opportunity, you're the jackass that ruined it. Hossa pissed me off, but I think his time here was so short that it barely registered.

Hossa's loser comment when he signed with Detroit just never set right with me. I missed the highlighted comment by Neal. Now I understand what you are saying.

That was his comments after the WCF when talking about Pittsburgh. I didn't expect warm fuzzies, but I can't stand playing the victim.

Doesn't matter, the league is fixed according to 90% of hockey fans, yet they still continue watching.
