listen i agree with what your saying but the difference is....lou gets paid to make sure the people he is getting are the right ones...i might agree or disagree with the choices but i dont get paid on it...nor do the experts...if lou wins 10 cups and i agreed with all his moves that gets me nada...same as the experts!

when your right you get the credit

when your wrong you dont

You can not base things off of hindsight

That's true, but Lou signs players based off what they've done in the past. He obviously didn't think Tallinder would have his worst start ever. He didn't think A-train would get hurt. He didn't think Kovy would score 15 goals. No one did.

Exactly! I think almost all of us would of said yes to adding Volchenkov & Kovalchuk to our team before the season because they have had solid careers and proven themselves in their positions. It's worked out that they've started horribly but that's either the coaches fault for not doing his job properly or it's the players for just not showing up. Not Lou.

I do agree Lou has a lot of responsibility obviously he's the GM but this shouldn't be something that falls on him in my opinion.

I would say though the hiring of Mac clearly is on Lou, and i think that was a bad move on Lou's part.

Here's a hypothetical though. What is Lemaire or Sutter were still the coach and we opened like this with Rolston, Salvador, Taormina, Corrente, Fraser, Langenbrunner, Parise, Brodeur, and JJ all hurt during the first 20 games at various intervals? Would we be blaming it on the coach or the injuries. my gut is that it would be the injuries.

And of course throw in Ilya's worst performance ever after getting his fat contract....

Now, I'm not making this point as a defense to keep MacLean, but I do think that's what we would be saying with a veteran coach.

Also, notice how well all the young players have been playing this season under JMac? Tedenby is just the latest after Taormina, Vasyunov, JJ, Urbom at times, Corrente, Magnan.

The injuries are definitely a reason Mac is doing so poorly, but even when we were healthy we werent that great. The fact that Mac is in his first year also helped him keep his job. If he was in his 3rd or maybe even 2nd he'd probably be gone. But Lou isnt dumb, he knows a "new" system takes time.

The other things to note is that he's essentially been without Parise for the whole season. Zach battled through the torn meniscus, but it was obvious he wasn't his old self.

Yeah i agree hypothetically it'd likely be a different discussion absolutely. Although i've just not agreed with some of his decisions, as far as line pairings have gone and playing 4th liners on the PK.

I mean before the start of the season all that everyone kept saying to JMac in the press was how the Devils are going to be this offensive threat with him as coach and the change that's gonna take place. Offensively we've been well...i guess everythings been bad for the majority of this year but i dunno.

I'd honestly say the only injury you can make an excuse for Jmac for is Parise, as you said since Parise hasn't been 100% and is now out with it. All the other injuries though...they were bad when almost everyone was healthy.

Dare i say we may of actually missed Rolston in the lineup a little?

Of course we missed Rolston, hes a big part of the lineup regardless of how much money he makes. Same for Salvador.

With this team putting in better efforts on the ice and getting some wins, maybe some of Rolston's qualities might be dressing room leadership and keep guys focused. This might be the intangible part that he brings and we as fans may never see/know.

If this NYI game doesn't show a need for a new coach, nothing will. Honestly, coming out completely flat against a team that lost 14 in a row is inexcusable. You can blame the players to a degree, but I compare it to working any job. If you don't have any respect for you boss or superior, you're not going to give it your all. It's just human nature. And it's clear there's no respect for Maclean. We're almost in dead last right now, what have we got to lose by changing coaches, preferably the whole staff. The best we can hope for is squeezing out a 7th or 8th seed if we can manage to get on some nice runs now. That won't happen under Maclean.

2. the 5on3 powerplay looked so so so so bad! my lord

face it lou has lost it! all of his coaching changes in the past hes probably thinking to himself "i cant go and fire another coach" thats a bad excuse to keep someone

Atleast we now know why Lemaire was changing lines every game..
The players are so inconsistent that its impossible to put together a steady top line.

I'm shocked that Oates has made no progress at all with the powerplay. His stupid Umbrella setup doesn't work when the guys up high consistently miss the net or get their shots blocked. Its too easy to defend when the players go to their assigned spot and stay there until the puck is cleared.

Funny, Thanksgiving I was telling my family that the Devs would lose to the Isles and somehow beat the Flyers. I dont know why, but that game against the Isles was just a guaranteed loss to me.

Regarding Mac, he won't be fired. I agree with Cup, Lou wont fire him. Who would replace him. Also, to be fair, all season half our lineup is hurt and we are seeing guys that have no business playing in the NHL, at least yet.

I have mixed feelings on Mac. There are times like today where it was at one point all Flyers and everybody could feel a goal or a penalty on the Devils. Right there, call a time out during that one stoppage of ply...instead, Greene takes a very lazy penalty and its tied. Also, too many mistakes and stupid penalties like too many men recently. These are things Mac has to take responsibility for, as well as the players. Also, seeing guys like Gionta on the ice with a minute left piss me off.

the powerplay is an absolute joke....maclean has to take the helm on that now give oates something else or chew oates out! i wouldnt even practice the PP instead just hold a metting and watch a pp of the caps or someone...the thing that annoys me the most about the devils powerplay there is ZERO player movement with or without the puck

motion creates emotion

NJ Cup - I'm behind you on this. ZERO player movement is a big issue for any team.

you know who imo is the king of this? #26 elias! he loves taking that shot middle of the circle even if there is a guy standing 5 feet from him!

There are no good passers on this team, who could do a nice set up for goal chances.

its pretty easy if your on the pk if the other team is stationary! just stay in the box and block the passing lanes...if you get people moving then the defense has to move to cover them thus creating open lanes

I really thought bringing in Oates would be the answer to the PP problems that have plagued this team for years. Our PP is so predictable and that probably goes hand in hand with what you're saying Cup. If the goalies/D know when and where the shots are coming you have no chance.
