I hadn't heard this one until now (I mean right this moment). My initial thoughts are that it's pretty good. It usually takes about 10 listenings of a PM album before it starts to sink in so this is a good sign that I do like it. There were some PM albums of the early 2000's that still don't do it for me.

The drumming reminds me a tad of the Mark Egan "ECM" style drums of the late 70's PMG. Sometimes ECM style can sound a little more like a drum solo that revolves around a rhythmic motif so I do get why someone might not like it.

I might get back with later impressions...

Agreed. What's interesting is that my favorite albums (Secret Story, First Circle, We Live Here, Still Life Talking) took a lot more. I just don't think this one is going to break into my top 10 Metheny albums. I was expecting another Secret Story which probably doomed it.
