Noone can dispute that Stanford is the cream of the crop for academics but we can't pretend half of their athletes would be accepted had they not been great athletes. Surprisingly athletes get rejected by Stanford in their first semester until another university in the conference accepts them, see Richard Sherman, Toby Gerhart and Josh Garnett.

Of course the athlete gets a break in admissions dept even at Stanford. But it's still Stanford. Go look at their graduation rate and tell me they are accepting the same caliber players/students as other schools when taking the Stanford curriculum into account. I went to a college prep High School and had regular student friends and athletes try to get into Stanford and well as Ivy league schools. The athletes were top ten percent of their class to even think about getting a look on top of having to be a good enough player. The regular student needed to be one of those been a 4.0 -4.2 gpa your whole life kinda people with a bunch of extra curricular activities. And this was at a college prep with college level classes.
But again. When you hear a player is academically ineligible to play it's because he didn't meet those requirements AG listed while already at his school. It's not a list of minimum requirements to get into a school.

I'm not saying the athletes are moronic or anything but people need to quit saying oh he went to Stanford so he is so intelligent. Roughy estimate is 90% or so football and basketball players would have been laughed out in the admin office had they applied as a regular student.

95% or more of everyone going to college in America would be laughed at applying to Stanford. It's safe to say pretty much every football player accepted to Stanford could get into every other college in the PAC as a student. It's also safe to say each team in the PAC might have four or five players at the most who could get into Stanford. I'm no Stanford fan Ive hated their teams for years but you can't poo poo the academics of their student athletes. I have a Stanford grad on my coed softball team. Shes two years out of her masters program in some sort of chemical biology that I don't understand when I ask how her day was. I just know she works with JPL on experiments with cancer and how space affects it when it comes to astronauts. I'm probably a little off because I seriously still don't know the specifics. She could have gone anywhere just as a student and I'm talking Harvard , Brown or MIT but like many brainiacs who can play sports she was attracted to Stanford for their combo of sports and academics. She's one hell of a center fielder and she played on the womens team for to seasons before her lab work got too demanding so she joined the rugby team which didn't have the travel or the long practices. And shes very cute. Too bad she's so young. lol

Jim let it go, I am, trolls are gonna troll. He knows he is wrong, but is just trying to stir the pot.

You're right. No one can be that dumb.

Hilarious that AG can't understand the difference between the NCAA minimums and the minimums required at a specific school.

Heck, this type of thing even exists (or used to) in high school. Back when I played in high school, there were the CIF's minimum standards to be eligible to play and the minimum standards my high school had...they were not the same.

The CIF required a minimum average grade of C with no restrictions on how you got there. So, if you had a C average with a couple of D's mixed in (or even an F), you could play.

At my school, you had to have a B average and anything lower than a C in any class, made you ineligible, even if you had a B average.

Student athletes ... such as football players recruited by Shaw and his staff, only have to meet the NCAA academic requirements. It's even posted on Stanford's website for fvks sake. Walk on's are a totally different animal. They have to meet Stanford's academic requirements.

Exactly. It's like not knowing that getting a "C" at you regular inner city 3000 student high school in a class called math or geography is not the same as getting a "C" at a college prep school where you're in a class like physics or macroeconomics.
The guy doesn't realize those are requirements that come into affect once you are actually a student and got accepted by the standards of each school . Or like Stanford fan said he's just trolling because he's bored. Or he doesn't like to admit he might be wrong. Or he's really that stupid and doesn't comprehend or read what he posts.

I'm amazed you can copy and paste because you obviously can't read and comprehend. Your link talks about NCAA requirements for STUDENTS to play sports.nYou're not a student till you get in to that college. Everyone knows there are requirements for every school and every player that you have to have to platy sports.. What you're not getting is when Shaw goes to recruit a high school student thatkid has been cleared by Stanford and has the GPA and scores to get into Stanford which are the highest in the conference. Now I can write this in crayon for you but I'm getting the idea you just like to play dumb. Have fun posting your link, lol,
