Leave it to a lawyer to add a bunch of legal-ease into the equation.

:D

Objection! Leading the conversation!

Hey - I'm all for getting rid of everything except wins and losses. There is a game - one team leaves the winner and the other the loser, case closed.

(Okay, that last part was admittedly lawyerish, but I resisted several inclinations to throw heretofore into that post).

That's just ironic how these so called capitalists want parity. Guess it's just "socialism" if things don't go their way.

I think knowing their teams are going to have good years and bad years, the 3-point games and grabbing a single point on some nights keep their teams "in the playoff hunt" even in some years where there teams aren't that good. That keeps fans interested and puts more butts in the seats, which is a critical part of NHL revenue to a team's bottom line.

Between revenue sharing & parity in competition, might as well call it the N.S.S.H.L., name Stalin the commissioner (he can't be worse than Bettman).

Exactly.

That's why some of the mediocre cold-weather football teams (who on earth could I possibly be referring to) are looking at domed stadiums. Who wants to watch an outdoor game in Buffalo in December when the team is already mathematically eliminated.

Note: I am not advocating the NFL start handing out loser points.

Oh, and it's called "legalese," Dash. Get it straight.

Legal-ease is a line of laxative products marketed to attorneys.

The Browns? I think mediocre is a bit of stretch. ;)

Best way to get rid of overtime is to just get rid of the loser points. No other sports league awards you for just taking the game to overtime. A win is a win, a loss is a loss, except in hockey. We need to stop appeasing the losers.

Honestly, I like it the way it is right now, it creates more parity and strategy, and I think Hockey is the one sport where players really lay it on the line - it makes things really interesting for the fans too

Are you saying if the Caps finish 2nd in the Metro Division this year we can't hang a banner for that?

Forget that!

I thought it was a lube for tweens

You're thinking of "Barely Legal Ease"

Since we're talking about non hockey ways to end hockey games, why not pull the Basketball nets out and have a dunk competition? Maybe we can give teams five minutes to create a great domino display and have the people who keep getting goal calls wrong in Toronto judge it. Maybe they can give each team one secret ingredient and ten minutes to make as many dishes as possible (And the game winner scored by Iron Chef Nobu with his spinorama inspired squid flapjacks!).

It's a hockey game. You should play hockey until someone wins. That's it. Two points for a win. Nothing for anything other than that.

In the new system, you'll have a record that is based on wins-losses-4playerOTwins-4playerOTlosses-3playerOTwins-3playerOTlosses-2playerOTwins-2playerOTlosses-other (result not specfied).

So your team could finish the season 42-20-7-4-2-3-1-2-1.

Simple, really.

The NHL. We may not be the most popular sport, but look how much of the page our standings take up!

3 on 3 overtime is a terrible idea. I say make OT ten min 4 on 4 and then move to a shoot out. I also hate that you get a point for OT losses. I think they should get rid of that and make it a point for shoot out loses.

I think they should go with some sort of Most Dangerous Game thing.

If they're still tied at the end of 5 minutes of overtime, snipers in the rafters start taking out players while the teams continue to play. They start with the backup goalie and the 4th liners and work their way up.

That will get the teams motivated to find a winner before OT is up.

The bottom line for me is that every game should be worth the same amount of points - Whether it's 2, 3, 8, a million, it doesn't really matter. The fact that some games award 2 points and some games award 3 points is hinky.

I think I solved it. If still tied after the OT, have the shootout between the two hottest ice girls of the home team. To make sure the one representing the away squad doesn't intentionally lose, make it a strip shootout where they have to take off an article of clothing per every shot missed.

Now, it doesn't really do anything to fix the current point situation but let's be honest, after an 8 round strip shootout does anyone really care who got the extra point?

if its tied after 8, strippers go in net and they can go to a five hole shooting contest and they can call it bukake

Threatening those girls with nudity will likely not do much.
