Murray was on CBC during intermission.
answered the question pretty pointedly.

1) don't want to trade Spezza
2) Kalrsson
3) Alfredsson is a fixture

other than that, the roster is fair game.
Murray said he would try to accommodate the UFAs to get them onto contenders.

Wow. FIRE SALE! :) Not sure there's...well, anyone I want on that roster though. Either too many years, or just doesn't fit the system (yeah, I'm talking about you Kovalev).

Yeah, I think you build around Spezza and Karlsson going forward. Alfie will be there to help with the transition.

But everybody else is fair game imo and hopefully Murray can get some good prospects back and some more draft picks. That would be ideal.

Are you sure about Kovalev? He's been playing pretty darn well lately. :D

If he were a little cheaper on the salary front (because if we're going for him, the Pens will probably get another as well), I'd be more tempted. That and I'm pretty sure he's at that "I'm too old to play defense" point in his career.

I can't really argue with the "untouchables".

I'd like to see Michalek (he's been REALLY good lately), Foligno (young and works hard) and Regin (I want to see him get more of a chance) stick around also.

Fair enough. I think the Pens will get him though. When push comes to shove, I don't think Shero is going to want to sacrifice a whole lot in terms of players/prospects/high draft picks when his team has been decimated by injuries and he's not even sure they can go the distance.

I think it's pretty clear the Pens need some additional offense with Malkin out for the year and Crosby out for awhile. People forget this but during that 11 game win streak the Sens had last year, Kovalev was arguably the guy who started and played well throughout that whole streak.

He was out there defending a one-goal lead in the final minute tonight.
Intercepted a pass, looked a defender away, and fired it home from 150 feet away.

He sure looks in 'resume mode' :)
Philips too... was strong today

Yeah I agree Kenny. I think Murray was just talking about guys that will absolutely not move. The guys you bring up are not really "core" guys. They're borderline core guys but they should stick around too.

Probably a 1st rounder + for Milan. I can't see him being cheap and remember he was the key guy from the Heatley deal. I doubt he'll be moved unless someone seriously overpays for him.

I also liked seeing Penner do well. That game was chopped full of potential targets. Hemsky, Penner, Kovalev, Ruutu (no Shero.), etc.

Alfredsson is untouchable if he wishes to be. I think his fate is his alone. If he wants to leave and have a shot at a cup, Murray will grant it. As well he should.

Karlson. Clearly. He's a once a decade find.

Spezza, eh. I don't know. I get the feeling that was said because, well, the NTC and long deal are entrenched now. Spezza wasn't happy last year because of the heat on him. If he's one of the three pillars left in a fire sale, how long is he going to stay happy? If he even is right now. I've seen a few times lately where has not seemed like he was there the whole game. I think there will be a huge shakeup and around July we'll get the "Spezza discusses waiving the NTC" stories again. As hard as it might be, if I'm Murray, I call him in to the office and ask him point blank what it's gonna be. Everyone in the central suddenly needs better centers. Penguins do too. That creates a market.

They should hold onto Regin, Lehner, Elliott and Foligno. But I don't see them holding all four. Michalek has been good, but he's too streaky and fragile to build around. If it's a remodel instead of rebuild, keep him. With a properly motivated supporting cast, he's a good asset to have. Rebuilding, he's worth more to someone else in trade.

Kovalev has to go. He should have never come. Gonchar and LeClaire too. Three terrible mistakes.
