Canada gave their best athlete award last year to a guy who didn’t play sports last year so Time had to one-up it, I guess.

i bought a new basketball hoop for the kids early spring this year. In high school I could dunk a tennis ball and the kids have seen my high flying aerial ability on the local elementary school outdoor 8 foot hoops. So naturally they wanted to see it on the new hoop after I set it up. Started at 8.5feet since theyve seen me DESTROY!!! 8. Then 9 foot and I still managed to dunk. Then they wanted to see 9.5 and I knew it had a fair chance to end very badly for me. Big run up ... jump ... failed completely / rejected by the rim ... strange click in my ankle on landing ... immediate heel pain that lasted for a few days ... now I have a grape sized knot in my heel that has yet to go away ... still able to run on it but I hobble out of bed every morning... kinda think completely tearing my achilles there would have been the better long term result

/morale of the story ... dont have kids!

So i finally went to see my family doctor about this today … whoops!

Ouch, can they do anything now?
I asked if there is a surgical option and the doctor said she will leave that to the specialist who reviews the imaging but said its doubtful since “its not like youre a pro athlete” (LOW BLOW!)

I would have probably gotten surgery at the time of injury if i saw a doctor back then :L

I have already been going to physio and my physio said to go get imaging done. Right now i have achilles tendinopathy. The achilles has tried to heal itself by reattaching, hence the jumbled speed bump mass at my heel. My bottom of my left calf muscle starts 1 inch higher up my leg in comparison to the right calf so there was definite release of the tendon.

Its the weirdest thing. My first few steps in the morning are torture and as i walk it off it warms up and gets to the point where there is no pain at all and im able to be physically active/move normally. Im even still able to run without pain. But the moment i stop moving like even if i stop running and just stand for a couple minutes, it stiffens up immediately and im back to moving around like an old man(or dash)

So it will be a continued long gruelling road of physio and potentially dry needling (which my physio has recommended trying but the dr today didnt seem so high on :noidea: )

I'm choosing to ignore the old man dig (because let's face it, it's true lol) and wish you the best buddy. Hopefully some medicinal magic can heal that bad wheel.

Ouch! I just looked up dry needling!

I was wondering about surgical options after a year. That's a long time.

My brother tore up both knees and they told him if he wasn't so young at the time they would not have attempted to repair all the tendons. My mother had both of hers fixed from injuries too so I decided not to ever leave the couch.

I hope you can find something that works for you. Don't let them dictate if you are a pro athlete or not!
