It centered in Virginia and was felt as far North as Montreal and as far West as Cleveland. I turned on the news to see more information on it...and it was non-stop "what's going on in New York? Virginia was hit by an earthquake...but New York is still ok."

Life on the East Coast. :frusty:

Yeah, everything's fine, first earthquake I've ever felt (as I'm sure most people on the East coast said.) It's just annoying that I turned on the news, since I live about 50 miles from the epicenter; I hear about how fucking New York is reacting to the quake.

Live in NY - it was very interesting. Building swayed and cars in the parking lot moved a little. No one had any clue as to what was happening. Don't have earthquakes that move anything in NY.

Most people just thought they were getting dizzy or about to get sick. Took awhile to realize what it actually was.

Some buildings in Manhattan did evacuate. I'm guessing there was quite a bit of fear that had nothing to do with an earthquake.

I'm sure that's true for NY.

I had no idea what the hell it was until it was announced.

FP Santangelo was on KNBR earlier today, he said most thought it was another 9/11 until they found out it was an earthquake.

To be fair...

Buildings here on the left coast are designed with earthquakes in mind. They can withstand a 5.9 without the slightest concern.

Buildings on the right coast are not. They can withstand hurricanes better than we can, though.

Chicago is set to withstand a blizzard that drops 6 feet of snow in 1 day. If SF hears RUMORS of snow, the city is shut down.

I was sitting in the upper deck at AT&T about 6 years ago when a 6.5 quake hit. It shook the upper deck a little bit but barely made the news the next day.

That's because Californians are smart enough to live in a state where we can be free of blizzards that might paralyze our homes and our businesses. Yet we are smart enough to live close enough to the snow that we can skii and snowboard any time we want.

Chicago, New York, Washington DC, etc - morons.
